GSS Featured Wedding Professional :: Heather Annette Photography :: Katie & David’s Vintage Photo Session at the Salt Lake City Temple

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  Today’s fabulous feature comes from Heather Ferguson of Heather Annette Photography, a Utah based wedding photographer.   Heather saw Madelyn and Justin’s Anniversary Session by fellow Utah wedding photographer, Andee Tate of Crave Photography on our site and wanted to get in on the fun too!  Heather has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Here’s a little bit about the session from Heather:  “This was actually a staged shoot, they were my lovely models. They got married last year around the same time in the Salt Lake temple. It snowed on their wedding day. A few weeks ago I was looking for some models to shoot at the SLC temple and they were up for it! It worked out perfectly! We shot this in 17 degree weather and freezing cold wind! You’d never guess it, they were so great. David and Katie are great friends of mine. I’ve grown up with David. They both live in Highland and are SUCH wonderful people!”

Katie and David were married on March 31, 2010.  Katie was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and your David meet?  David and I met while I was in cosmetology school with his cousin. David was in our hair show, and begged his cousin to set us up. He then pursued me from June until February when I attended a Valentines Day party at his house. Sparks flew, and we were inseparable from then on!

How long have you been married?  March 31st will be our one year anniversary!!!

What has been your favorite part of being married?  Having your best friend with you and TOGETHER you work through the hard stuff.

What advice do you offer to newlyweds? Think before you speak, enjoy the little things, and pick your battles.

What one item off of your wedding registry do you love the most?   Honestly, we couldn’t pick just one! I would recommend making sure you have all the basics.

What made you choose Heather as your photographer?   We love the way she edits pictures! She has a very creative mind, and is so easy going and friendly, that it’s easy to be yourself during the shoot. She can also come up with unique locations, and set ups for your photo’s. Heather is also very good at communicating with you so it’s clear what you want as a finished project. I would recommend her to everyone! She is so talented!

Thank you so much, Heather, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Katie, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We wish you and David a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

If you have an engagement, wedding, day after, or anniversary session that you would like featured- Please send it to us at submissions@groomsoldseparately.com.  We HEART submissions!

GSS Featured Wedding :: Alyssa & Austin’s Fall Texas Wedding :: Stephanie Davis Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Stephanie Davis of Stephanie Davis Photography, a Texas based wedding photographer.  Does Stephanie and the couple’s name sound familiar?  It should!  We featured the steamy engagement session of  Alyssa and Austin back in July- AND Alyssa and Austin’s engagement session was the BIG WINNER of our prestigious Best Feature of 2010 Award!!!!  (If you have never laid eyes on this awesome engagement session, please click here to check it out!)  We thought it would be fun to follow up one of our engagement features with a feature of their wedding… And we were right!  Talk about a beautiful wedding of an absolutely stunning Bride and Groom!!!

Stephanie has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Alyssa and Austin were married in October of 2010 at Fielder Road Baptist Church.  Alyssa was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Austin meet? Austin and I met through my college roommate my freshman year (his junior year) at Texas A&M University.

How long have you been together? We have been together for almost 5 years now – whoa!

How did Austin propose? Austin proposed in front of a couple hundred people (he was shouting, mind you!) at the Procter & Gamble House for American Athletes at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

What sold you on your wedding venue? We were married at Fielder Road Baptist Church – this is where I grew up going to church and where my parents were married as well almost 25 years ago. Our reception was held at the Arlington Museum of Art – I loved the idea of having it at an art museum!

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I found my dress at Lang’s Bridal in Arlington, TX. As soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one – I just *felt* beautiful, and I knew Austin would love it as well.

What song did you dance to for your first dance? I Have and Always Will by Dave Barnes.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”? Old – my great grandmother’s handkerchief in my bouquet; New – my dress; Borrowed – my sister’s-in-law garter; Blue – my earrings.

How did you choose your wedding color palette? We were married in October so I chose very fall colors – brown, sage green, orange, dark purple.

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process? ENJOY this time. It’s so easy to get stressed over all the details. Your wedding day will go by so quickly – and then it’s over. So take it slow and have fun!

What was your favorite part of your big day? Stephanie suggests to her brides to do what she calls a “First Look.” This is when the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony. It was such a sweet, intimate time for just the 2 of us and we have amazing pictures as a result!

GSS Featured Engagement :: Brooke & Derek’s Houston Engagement Session at Saint Arnold Brewery :: Kelly Hornberger Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  Today’s fabulous featured engagement comes from Kelly Hornberger of Kelly Hornberger Photography, a Houston, Texas based wedding photographer.   Kelly has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Brooke and Derek are to be married on April 8, 2011 in Austin, Texas.  Brooke was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Derek meet? We met through a mutual friend our freshman year at the University of Texas.

How long did you date before the proposal OR How long have you been together? We were together for about 3 1/2 years before the proposal, but had been friends for over 5 years prior to dating.

Have you set a date yet? Yes!  April 8, 2011.

Have you picked your venue?  If so, what made you choose this location? Yes- Barr Mansion in Austin, Texas. We looked at about 9 other venues in Austin but fell in love with the charm of Barr Mansion. It was by far the most unique place we visited and we fell in love with it at first sight. We booked it in late March 2010 and in June, the ballroom of the facility was struck by lightning and burned down. We were devastated by the news, but the venue promised to rebuild.  It’s been a much longer process than everyone originally projected, but we’re remaining positive that it will be completed by April.

At what point did you know that Derek was “the one”? Once we started dating and began spending every weekend together, I started to realize how happy Derek was making me and how everything felt so easy and comfortable from the very beginning. It felt like everything we did together (even the occasional mundane event) was fun and I hated when we had to leave each other.

Besides getting engaged, what is your favorite memory as a couple? A few years ago we attended a friend’s wedding in San Francisco and we went up a few days early so we could explore the city and go to Napa Valley by ourselves. It was a fast & furious trip, but we had a blast.

How did Derek propose? Last March, we had quite a few family events occur all in the same weekend- a wedding shower, a 21st birthday and a baby Christening. Because of the festivities, a lot of our family was in town. Month’s prior to this weekend, and without my knowing, Derek saw this as a perfect opportunity to propose since our families would be together. On Saturday, Derek took me to our favorite restaurant- Grappino di Nino’s- and popped the question! I was completed shocked and discovered later that this was just the first of many surprises. As I was saying YES, my best friend was hiding in the bushes taking pictures. When we left the restaurant, Derek took me to a wine bar, where both of our families were waiting for a surprise engagement party. In the back of the party room was our favorite local singer/guitarist, playing our favorite songs. Derek did such a wonderful job and I could not have imagined a more perfect engagement!

Were you surprised? YES!

Tell us about your inspiration for your engagement session… What made you choose St. Arnold Brewery as the location? (We LOVE Saint Arnold!) Derek and I had visited Saint Arnold Brewery many times for tours & tastings, and their beer is some of our favorite. We wanted our engagement pictures to be fun and reflect our personalities, so we couldn’t think of a more perfect place than Saint Arnold’s, a place we had been visiting together since the beginning of our relationship!

What made you choose Kelly as your photographer? Kelly shot the wedding of a friend from high school, and I came across the pictures on facebook. I immediately went to her website and fell in love with her style.  Once Derek and I met her in person and got to discuss the vision of our wedding, we totally clicked and the decision was made. We booked her the next week!

Thank you so much, Kelly, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and show her some love!  And thank you, Brooke, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We hope your wedding is everything that you have ever dreamed of and wish you and Derek a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

GSS’s Things We LOVE :: Celebrating Your Feminine Beauty with Sheer Beauty by Emily Mamone of Don Mamone Photography

Having a hard time deciding on what to get your Groom as a wedding gift?  What about a lovely photo album full of romantic, sexy, and sassy images of you?!  Why not, he absolutely adores every part of you- he’s marrying you after all!  So don’t be shy and book a boudoir session with your favorite photographer!  This is a super sweet gesture that roared onto the wedding scene since last year and has continued on into this year.  Miss Emily Mamone of Don Mamone Photography has created Sheer Beauty in order to do just that… AND so much more!  Emily not only has multiple years of experience behind the camera, but she modeled for many years prior to becoming a photographer.  Her modeling experience provides her with a unique understanding of posing and composition as well as lighting design and direction.  She has carried this knowledge with her as she developed her photographic talents and now she brings both to every wedding and portrait session they do.  She loves knowing that she can help their clients look and feel their most beautiful and then capture the image while they do.

We were lucky enough to do a quick interview with Emily to find out what Sheer Beauty is all about and what inspired her to create it.   Check it out:

What exactly is Sheer Beauty?  Simply put, Sheer Beauty is my passion for finding and capturing a woman’s natural beauty through contemporary portraiture.  As with all images I capture, throughout each Sheer Beauty session, I strive to tell a story, her story.
To Whom is Sheer Beauty targeted?  Sheer Beauty is targeted to all women, pure and simple.  I capture everything from contemporary high school senior portraits to playful and sensual boudoir, as well as professional or creative head shots and concept fashion photography.

Senior Portraits:

Headshots and Portraits:

Fashion and Concept:

What is needed for a Sheer Beauty shoot? ie., What does a Sheer Beauty shoot normally entail?  First, every Sheer Beauty session begins with a complimentary consultation.  It is very important that I discuss the type of images each client wants to capture.  We will discuss what venue and backdrop she is considering, how many looks or wardrobe changes she may want and how the final images may be used.  Although my ultimate goal to tell each women’s story remains the same, I may capture a session somewhat differently if I am planning to design a portrait album versus on-line images or single prints.  From there, I provide some guidance on style, hair and makeup and we determine a good session date and time.  Next, then the session day arrives, and my first obligation is to make the client feel comfortable and relaxed.  Most times, I encourage clients to bring a friend to their session to help them loosen up, as well as to assist with any needs they have. This can be especially important if we are capturing boudoir images.  Finally, once the session is complete, I upload, backup, cull, edit and retouch the final images so that we can host an image review session at which time we select her favorites and determine what products are to be designed and ordered.  In keeping with my desire to tell each woman’s story, my editing style is inherently very natural.  I ensure that each woman looks her very best but refrain from making edits that are unrealistic or unnatural.

What made you want to start up Sheer Beauty?  So many reasons encouraged me to start Sheer Beauty.  In today’s society, most woman are not especially comfortable with their beauty; myself included.  Unrealistic images that have been dramatically edited and retouched seem to have a great deal to do with these misconceptions by establishing an unreasonable and most times unattainable goal for women.  Every woman, regardless of age, shape and size is beautiful in their own way and it is my goal to tell their story by capturing their beauty, their Sheer Beauty

Now,  just picture your Groom’s face lighting up the moment he opens this up on your wedding day!  This is a gift he’ll surely treasure forever!  So, go ahead and let your inner beauty shine!!!
