GSS Featured Engagement Session :: Shasta and Lance’s Sweet and Flirty Fort Worth Engagement :: Arden Prucha Photography

Today’s fabulous featured engagement comes from Arden Prucha Photography a Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas based wedding photographer.  Does her name sound familiar?  It should!  We featured the amazing engagement session of Jessi & Turner back in October.  If you have never laid eyes on this awesome 1940′s inspired engagement session, please click here to check it out!

Arden has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.  FYI- This is one of the sweetest proposals ever! :)

Shasta and Lance  are to be married on February 5, 2011.   Shasta was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Lance meet?  We met through mutual friends. I was finishing school and waiting tables and he came in with some friends. I blew him off on our first date haha. Then we finally went out and I was in love.

How long did you date before the proposal OR How long have you been together?  We will be together two years in April. He proposed on March 20th, 2010.

Have you set a date yet?  We are getting married February 5th,2011 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico!

Have you picked your venue?  If so, what made you choose this location?  We chose a destination wedding because we wanted a smaller intimate setting of close friends and family. Also we had our first vacation in Playa and it was unforgettable.

At what point did you know that Lance was “the one”?  After about two weeks of dating we were completely inseparable. He truly is my best friend.

Besides getting engaged, what is your favorite memory as a couple?  We took a trip to Mexico with another couple and had so much fun together just relaxing and laughing the entire time.

How did Lance propose?  He got his mom and sister to come kidnap me for a day of shopping. I arrived home that night to a long stem rose on the door with a note. I opened the front door and there were over 200 candles and flowers everywhere. Took my breath away. There was a trail of Hershey kisses throughout the house with long stem roses and letters about why he loved me so much that he had hand written. I walked into the bedroom and he was on one knee. I started bawling. I couldn’t tell you what he said I just remember holding his face in my hands because his sweet voice was shaking :)

Were you surprised?  Very much so!

What made you choose Arden as your photographer?  We have a ton of mutual friends on facebook and I added her. I began to look at her blog constantly even before we were engaged. Her work is absolutely breathtaking. I was amazed by her use of color and her way of bringing out the inner beauty in people.   Her family is so picture perfect. Love you Arden!

Thank you so much, Arden, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Shasta, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We hope your wedding is everything that you have ever dreamed of and wish you and Lance a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

If you have an engagement, wedding, day after, or anniversary session that you would like featured- Please send it to us at submissions@groomsoldseparately.com.  We HEART submissions!

GSS’s Things We LOVE :: RSVP Events’ Bike Table!!!

Back in July we introduced you to the AH-Mazing photography of Nine Photography and the ultra unique wedding of Britney & Bo.  You know we LOVE all weddings, but this wedding (and Bride!) really stood out to us- Maybe it was all of the COLOR involved!  Well, Miss Britneyhas started up her own FABulous event planning business named RSVP Events and you HAVE to check her out!  We couldn’t be more thrilled for Britney and we can’t wait to see what she’s got hidden up her sleeves!  She sent over this amazing bike table for a “Groom’s Area” at a wedding reception.  SO amazing!  Even more amazing- her Groom, Bo made the table himself!  Swoon!

Here’s a little bit of information about this FABulous set up from Britney:

I know amongst all the wedding planning, finding the most adorable hairstyle, the perfect dress and stand out shoes, you might forget about some minor details… like the GROOM! ha!   So, to help include him in the big day, I propose doing an area for him and his boys to stand around, have a brew, and talk about how lucky he is to have snagged you… and our fabulous vintage bike table!

How fun would it be to do something like this as a surprise for him at the reception with his favorite drinks and snacks, fully customized to him?! Look at your left hand… its the least you can do! ;)

Here are some detailed shots of the table sure to make him the happiest boy in the world, and you the coolest wife ever!

View from the top of their custom bike table – the see through glass top makes it sturdy and super cool!

This is their first bike, but more are in works to coincide with different color schemes, etc!

“I love the miniature hand held books I found: “Pick-Ups and Come On’s”, “Stuff Every Man Should Know”, and of course, “Insults and Comebacks”.

Thank you so much, Britney, for sending this over!  We can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us! :)

GSS Featured Wedding :: Kristin & Justin’s Philadelphia Wedding at the Four Seasons :: Michael Ash Imagery

You’re in for a treat today!  Today we have a fabulous submission from Michael of Michael Ash Imagery.  Michael Ash Imagery is one of our preferred vendors and sponsors of GSS!  So please join us in giving Michael a great BIG warm welcome to GSS!!!  Michael Ash Imagery is based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Kristin and Justin were married on November 6, 2010 in Philadephia, Pennsylvania at the Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia in November, 2010.

Oh, and you’ll have to check out Kristin and Justin’s engagement session too.  It’s such a cute idea!  Their shoot was based on the book 29 Gifts.  Premise of 29 Gifts:  At age 33 Cami Walker was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and the life she knew changed forever. Then, as a remedy for her condition, she received an uncommon prescription from a friend: Give away 29 gifts in 29 days.   In one chapter of the book, she ends up giving out flowers to random people on a walk home and she is amazed to see the reaction she gets from them.  So Michael thought he’d try this idea on an engagement session.  Part experiment.  Part fun.  All good!  Click here to see it!

Kristin was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Justin meet?  We met second semester senior year in college through a friend. I had class with him junior year and always thought he was super cute, as fate has it we finally met senior year and have been together ever since then!

How long have you been together?  It will be 8 years in January.

How did Justin propose? It was October 30th, 2009 (his birthday). He just got home from work and we were going to go out to dinner. I was running late and trying to get ready. All of a sudden he said I have something for you? It was a little Halloween bag. ( I thought it was filled with candy from his parents because his dad works for Godiva). Anyway there was a piece of paper on the inside that said “I love you, will you marry me?”  I turned around and he was on one knee and told me he loved me and ask me to marry him. I said yes! I didn’t even see the ring because it had fallen out of the box onto the floor- hahaha! What I found out after that the piece of paper was stationary with our married name on it that we can use after the wedding.  It was perfect and so thoughtful and such a happy moment in my life!

What sold you on your wedding venue?  The excellent service and the elegant understatedness (not sure if that is a real word) of the hotel.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I got it at The Bridal Garden in Cherry Hill.  It’s a James Clifford.  It was probably the 5th dress I tried on and I cried when I saw myself in it and didn’t want to take it off!  The Bridal Garden was a great place to get my dress and they have an excellent selection.

What song did you dance to for your first dance? We danced to a song that David Gray sang but never recorded.  It’s called “Let it be me” which is a remake of the Everly Brother’s song.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?    My something old was the tulle around my bouquet, it was from my mom’s veil.  My something new was my dress.  Something borrowed was a handkerchief from my Mema (grandma) and my something blue were my toes, I used the color Russian Navy by OPI.

How did you choose your wedding color palette? As much as I love color I am pretty simple and usually stick with neutrals. I loved the idea of different kinds of white flowers with pops of green (Justin loves green). I thought it looked really elegant and pretty. I chose my bridesmaids bouquet’s to be fall colors because I love the Fall. I just didn’t want a Fall themed wedding so that is how I got my pops of fall colors in. We lit the room in candles and had a soft pink lighting to give it a romantic vibe. I dressed my bridesmaids in black Priscilla of Boston dresses that were sexy and elegant at the same time and perfect for a formal Fall wedding.

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process? On the day of, just enjoy every moment and do not stress about anything. Have all questions from vendors sent to someone else the day of, either a friend or wedding planner so you can sit back and soak everything in! It goes by sooooo fast!

What was your favorite part of your big day?  There were so many to choose from but walking down the aisle was amazing and a feeling I cannot describe. And the getting ready process with all of my bridesmaids at my parents house the morning of it.

GSS Featured Wedding :: Eric & Aubrey’s San Diego Winery Wedding :: EE Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  We’re halfway through this work week! YAY!  Today we have a fabulous submission from Erin of EE Photography.  EE Photography is based out of the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area.

Side Rant:  Does the name EE Photography sound really familiar to you?  It should… Back in October, we ran this fabulous “Bohemian Meets Farm” styled photo shoot by Amanda Marie Portraits and EE Photography AND then EE Photography ran a giveaway for a free photo shoot all of November on GSS!  So, if you can’t tell, we just LOVE EE Photography!!!

Aubrey and Eric were married in San Diego, California at St. Gregory the Great and hosted their beautiful reception at The  Bernardo Winery on November 6, 2010.  Aubrey was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Eric meet?   We were cast in a play together as husband and wife. Eric is a co-founder of Furious Theatre Company in Los Angeles and they were doing the world premiere of “An Impending Rupture of the Belly” by Matt Pelfrey. Eric was already cast in the role of the husband but they put out a casting call for the role of his wife and had over 400 submissions! I was lucky enough to be cast opposite him as his wife and apparently the chemistry was good enough to carry over into real life :)

How long have you been together?  Three and a half years.

How did Eric propose?  Eric proposed to me on a trip to Italy in front of the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Legend has it that if a visitor tosses a coin in the fountain, they are ensured to return to Rome. Eric asked me to close my eyes, throw a coin in the fountain and make a wish. When I opened my eyes, he was down on one knee.

What sold you on your wedding venue?  We were originally looking for a winery (we love wine!) and when we were doing our research, we came upon The Bernardo Winery. When we got to the grounds and started walking around we realized it was a perfect blend of our two families – it had a quaint, rustic feel that reminded us of Eric’s Texas home and the family that started the winery was from Sicily, the same Italian place that my dad’s family (the Saverinos) were from! As for the wedding ceremony, we chose St. Gregory the Great, a church that my family had been a part of when I was a child. The congregation started out in an office with folding chairs but over the course of my childhood, my parents helped contribute to the building of this beautiful new church.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?    The dress is from a boutique in La Mesa, California called “Amour Bridal“. I was out to lunch with my mom after I got engaged, but it was still over a year away from the wedding. She suggested we just pop in a few places to get some ideas, since I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for at the time. When we went into Amour Bridal, I saw this dress on the hanger and thought I’d never seen anything like it! It was too unique not to try on. I’d only tried on a few other dresses but once I put this one on, I knew it was the one.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?

My something old was a gift from my mother’s best friend who recently passed away – it was a beautiful chocolate brown garter that she had worn on her wedding day.

My dress, shoes and unique flower headpiece (created by my Aunt Pam) were all new so I figured the “something new” category was pretty covered :)

Something borrowed were a pair of pearl earrings from my mother and my something blue was a sapphire ring my mother gave me.

What song did you dance to for your first dance?  Eric & I danced to Ingrid Michaelson’s cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. We wanted something classic with a twist and since we had both discovered Ingrid Michaelson at a concert we went to in Los Angeles, we thought using her cover of the song would be perfect!

How did you choose your wedding color palette?  We chose fall colors for our wedding palette – deep browns and greens, with accents of copper, yellow, orange and burgundy. We wanted the colors to complement the colors of the outdoor fall reception at the winery and my aunt took the idea and ran with it. She did an amazing job incorporating those colors into the bouquets and all the arrangements and decorations for the reception.

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?  It’s easy to get hung up & stressed out about tiny details, but always remember the bigger picture: this is day where so many people you love and care about come together to celebrate the two of you, and that doesn’t happen very often. So be present, enjoy the moment and don’t sweat the small stuff ;)

What was your favorite part of your big day?  Honestly, it’s hard to pick just one – but we’d have to say the best part was being surrounded by our family and friends. It was such a fantastic day and we are extremely grateful to everyone who helped make it so special.
