Today’s fabulous features wedding comes from Allison Reisz Photography, a Savannah/Hilton Head Island wedding photographer. Allison has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.
How did you and Scott meet? It’s an old fashioned love story… we met at a bar. Actually, we met at a bar twice. The first time was when I was still in college in Boston and we met out in NYC one night. I wasn’t looking to start anything since we lived in different cities, so I wasn’t very responsive. I moved to NYC a few months later and we randomly saw each other at a bar again. We went out to dinner soon after and have been together since.
How long have you been together? On our wedding day, it had been almost 5 years.
We are in LOVE LOVE LOVE with Luba’s Valentino shoes!!!
How did Scott propose? The day before we were leaving for a trip to St. Petersburg, Russia (where I’m from), he arranged a spa day for me to relax. Afterwards, I was handed an envelope with instructions to go to the Tribeca Grand Hotel. The room was filled with flowers and there was a gift with instructions to open it. He had gotten me a dress and brought several pairs of my shoes plus the entire contents of my make-up drawer so that I could get ready for dinner. He showed up about an hour later and popped the question. We enjoyed some wine & cheese in the room and then headed to dinner. The next day he had organized a family brunch prior to our departure overseas.
Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? It was actually my sister’s Vera Wang gown from her wedding 10 years earlier. Her wedding had been more formal and the dress was originally a ballgown. I wanted more of a mermaid style and was able to find a bridal seamstress recommended by the Vera Wang bridal salon who was able to make it happen!
What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”? “Something old” – was my dress… “something new” – my shoes… and “something blue” – my bridesmaids dresses
What sold you on your wedding venue? We loved the fact that there were so many activities for people to do in addition to the actual wedding. It was Memorial Day Weekend and Hilton Head was a trip for all of our guests, so we wanted to make sure everyone would have a good time. We also wanted an outdoor ceremony and loved the beautiful location on the golf course… plus Scott is obsessed with golf!
How did you choose your wedding color palette? I knew I wanted something simple and elegant. It was mostly creams with a touch of gold. I chose the blue for the girls to brighten it up a bit for the beginning of summer and the color looked great in our outdoor pictures.
What was your favorite part of your big day? My favorite part of the day was walking back up the aisle with Scott right after the ceremony. All of the stress had melted away and it was time to celebrate!
What song did you dance to for your first dance? Green Eyes by Coldplay
Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process? No matter what… you are going to stress. But, everything works out, even if its not exactly how you pictured it. Everyone told me to try to enjoy it all when the day finally comes because it is over before you know it… and this is very true! You can plan and prepare, but don’t sweat the small stuff on the day of. You want to enjoy it!
