GSS Featured Wedding Pro :: More Than an Image :: Ashley & Thad’s Dallas Arboretum Wedding

We are so thrilled to share Ashley and Thad’s gorgeous wedding at the Dallas Arboretum from More Than and Image. Lacy submitted it to us from Two Bright Lights! Lacy shared with us that this was an incredibly sweet and equally stunning couple…we couldn’t agree more! The bride hand-made the hair-pieces for the bridesmaids and presented them clipped on little clutches. We did have a chance to connect with Ashley to get her behind the scenes take on the wedding….

take it away, Ashley!

How did you and Thad meet?

We met through a mutual friend while we were out one night.  Neither of us was looking for a relationship at the time, so it started slow, just hanging out as friends.  Sometimes when not looking, the sweetest relationships are found.

How long have you been together?

3.5 years

How did Thad propose?

He proposed at Christmas in 2009.  We were celebrating the holiday together early because we were both going to go with our families that year.  HIs family also wanted to have me over that night to celebrate before I left for the week. Thad wanted me to open my presents before we went to his parents and I declined which was unlike me because I looove presents, but I also thought I knew everything I was getting.  However, Thad is a great stocking stuffer, so I went for my stocking first.  I pulled out all of my stocking stuffers and then I noticed there were still some chocolate kisses in the bottom.  So, I dumped the stocking over as Thad got down on one knee in front of me.  The kisses came out and so did a single red ribbon with a beautiful diamond ring attached to the end.  I have never been more surprised in my life!

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?

My dress was made by Enzoani.  I got it from this fabulous little bridal boutique in Waco, Texas called Georgio’s Bridal.  The staff there was AMAZING.  I actually had something in mind that I wanted and of course after looking at several stores, could not find it.  Georgio’s brought my dress to me (which was originally a halter) and vowed to help me make into exactly what I wanted.  The process took a couple of appointments, but the alterations department there was wonderful and the final product was better than I imagined, and so special since there was no other dress exactly like it.

What sold you on having your wedding venue be Dallas Arboretum?

I had visited the Arboretum several times as a little girl and was always so amazed with the place.  I remember seeing brides taking pictures there and thought it would be such a beautiful place to get married one day.  When Thad and I got engaged and started to look at places, we were sold on the place because of the beautiful scenery and intimacy the venue provides for an outdoor ceremony.

What was your favorite part of your big day?

Seeing Thad for the first time.  We did the first look and it gave us about a 10 minute period during  a crazy, busy weekend where it was just us (and our photographers of course). It was so sweet and relaxing.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”?

My something old was my great-grandmother’s wedding ring, my something new was my wedding attire, my something borrowed was my friend’s white gold and pearl Mikimoto bracelet, and my something blue was my toenails (and underwear) although you could not see either during my wedding thank goodness :)

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?

Try not to stress too much so you can enjoy the process and just know that everything is not going to go perfectly and it does not have to.  The thing is, the actual wedding day goes so fast and no one notices little imperfections.  Everyone is just there to see you get married and that’s the most important part.

How did you choose your wedding color palette?

I wanted to make sure my colors went with the season and with the wedding being at the end of summer/brim of fall, I though that purple, green, and blue would work nicely.   I didn’t use the bright summer colors but stayed away from the really dark fall colors.  I just chose colors in between.  Plus purple is my favorite color so it worked out perfectly :)

What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife?

We danced to James Morrison’s “You Make it Real to Me.”  Beautiful song.

We love the getaway car – tell us more about that:

My getaway car was my Pappy’s 1957 Chevy, all original.  It was so special to me because I have fond memories of it growing up – riding in parades and around the small town where my grandparents lived.  My grandpa took perfect care of it — I think it has 26,000 miles on it! My grandpa died 2 years so when I asked my grandma if I could use it, I was not sure if it was possible to get it from West Texas to Dallas.  But without hesitation, she said sure and got the car hand washed and on a trailer to Dallas.  I know my grandpa was smiling from ear-to-ear and if he would have been there for my wedding day, he would have driver us away in his cowboy hat.

Thank you so much, Lacy, for sharing this amazing wedding session with us!  Please stop by her blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Ashely, for taking the time to answer our questions!  We wish you and Thad a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!
