Puurrrrr – yes, that is what our inbox did when this one hit! Lindsey sent us her very first submission, EVER and we are certainly glad she did. This day after session is something straight out of a novel. I mean, if novels had pictures (we can dream right?). Lindsey mentioned having a pretty session she wanted to send in and as soon as she finished processing, she was going to give this whole submission thing a try. If you feel inclined, stop by Lindsey’s Blog – you will be glad you did; lots more eye candy there!

Wedding pros, we can not thank you enough for sending us these fabulous submissions – we truly appreciate it.

We asked Amanda a few questions about her day after session…here is what she had to say ::

How did you and your husband meet?

Wes and I were in Christian sororities/fraternities in college. At the first part of freshman year, I spotted him above the crowd (he’s 6′ 5″) and told on of my friends that he was the best looking guy I had ever seen. Flash forward 2 1/2 years later, I see him at another party. I knew he was a huge fan of basketball, and I may or may not have “embellished” my appreciation of basketball in order to get his attention. After suffering through watching a basketball game together, I admitted my deceit he took me on a real date. Our relationship grew from there.

How long have you been together?

We’ve been together for 2 1/2 years, and married for 3 months.

How did he propose?

My friend Erica and I went to Shawnee, OK to visit our other best friend Alejandra who was moving to Europe for study the next day. It was just supposed to be a girls day, and we had planned to go visit an art museum. We ended up getting to the art museum only five minutes before closing, and I felt horrible for inconveniencing the staff but everyone was so nice to let us in. We toured the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, and at one point I jumped ahead because I saw in a glass reflection a “children’s section” with a dinosaur painting that looked exactly like one that Wes had painted when we had a (not so serious) art night. When I got closer to the painting, I noticed that it had been updated to include “Amanda, Will You Marry Me?” It still didn’t register in my head that it was me, until Wes walked out of the exit door, got down on one knee, and proposed.

Where was your wedding?

Our wedding was at Lofty Spaces in Dallas, TX

What was your wedding date and the weather that day?

July 25, 2010 – Do I even have to say that it was unbearably hot that day?!

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?

My friend Sam and I decided to drive to Oklahoma City (I lived in Stillwater, OK before I moved to Dallas) for a day of wedding shopping. All of the high-end stores were obviously already booked for that day, so we went into Alfredo Angelo where we could just walk in. It was really just meant to be a browsing trip, and I had no idea what I wanted except for “no rhinestones” and something that wouldn’t wrinkle easily. The consultant ended up bringing out “the” dress, I liked it and decided to buy it. The consultant made us wait a bit. We took two hours – went to lunch and then Dillard’s where we chose and purchased the bridesmaid dresses, then came back and purchased the dress! The lady thought we were crazy I’m sure, but I know what I like when I see it.

We love day after sessions, what made you decide to do one?

Being a wedding photographer myself, I already knew the value of them and didn’t need to be convinced! I knew because our wedding was at 3 in the middle of July, the sun would be harsh while we were taking pictures before hand. With the inevitable bad lighting and wedding stress I knew we would encounter on the day of, along with my desire to get tons of organic, natural images with Wes made this decision a no-brainer for me.

What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife?

We actually forgot to choose our song until about 30 minutes before the dance. We had gone back and forth between swing dancing to “In The Mood” which is my grandmother’s favorite song, and slow-dancing to Ben Taylor’s version of “You Belong To Me.” We ended up doing the slow dance first, and the swing dance second to get the party started!

Your necklace is so pretty, where did you get it?

Ann Taylor LOFT. I’m a huge fan of the LOFT – I had spotted the necklace when it was full price but, knowing how everything seems to go on sale their for super-good prices, I waited until it went on sale and snatched it up!

Do you have any advice for wanting to do a day after session?

Make sure you plan to rent a tux for your groom or have some alternative outfit in mind for him. Mix up your hair and jewelry a bit so your images have a feel to them that is totally you. As a bonus, if you choose a location that has a little dirt (like a field!) you won’t have to worry about cleaning your dress to make it spick and span. I think the best day after sessions are the one with a relaxed, organic feel – something that’s a little harder to capture with all the pressure of your wedding day!

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”?

My something old was my great-great-grandmother’s antique lace that wrapped my bouquet, and my something old was a vintage blue-bird pin that had belonged to an elderly neighbor that I spent a ton of time with during my childhood in California. Something borrowed was an pair of heirloom earrings that are in my best friend’s family (who have adopted me as their own). My something new – dress, shoes, Anthropologie headband, ring…

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?

Tons!! Make a list of your top priorities, and devote your time, budget and resources to those and don’t stress over everything else. Also, think about wedding traditions before you participate in them. Keep the ones you love and toss the ones you don’t! I always tell my brides that just because something was mandated 100 years ago, doesn’t mean you have to do it today, and I tried to keep that policy in mind for myself :)

How did you choose the location?

I talked to Lindsey about the type of images I was looking for and locations I had seen her shoot in before that inspired me, and then we decided on the locations.
