We certainly have a “crush” on this board. It just screams summer time wedding fun. As we get closer to the warmer months, we are loving outdoor themed weddings with a fun flare. The bouquet below reminds us how the bride attracts all eyes on her and what says that better than carrying a bouquet of flocking butterflies? And Wheatgrass…you can’t have a greener wedding than growing it yourself! These fun escort cards placed in Wheatgrass are adorable! Why not bring that to your wedding tables as well? Keep growing these treasures and add some colorful Gerbera Daisies in for a pop of color. Pockets!!! We love pockets. Drop your handkerchief in one and you are good to go during your vows if you get a little teary eyed. Need a little more lip gloss for those romantic portraits with your photographer just after you are pronounced husband and wife? You have a pocket to discreetly place some in it. Grooms wearing seersucker makes us want to sip lemonade on the front porch of a southern plantation while watching a tennis match on the front lawn. Ok, maybe not that much, but it certainly makes us think summertime wedding with fabulous style. Don’t forget to add your Orange and Strawberry Crush for your guests…fun colors and refreshed guests :: win win!

At GSS, we are definitely not experts in fitness. But we do read all of the magazines and try all of the fad diets, just like every other woman trying to improve her appearance and boost her self esteem. We found an awesome article on Us Magazine’s website. It is full of all of the workout questions we all have pondered at some point in time and their answers. Below is the article and please visit Us Magazine’s website for more information.
“Natalie Thomas, Us‘ deputy news editor, is hitting the gym with Buff Brides author Sue Fleming (Katie Holmes was a devotee prior to marrying Tom Cruise!) before saying “I Do” to her beau of three years, Zach Friedman, on May 30. Check her weekly blog — with step-by-step workout plans, diet details and photos — on UsMagazine.com every Thursday.
If you’re like me, you’ve done your fair share of browsing through fitness magazines, pausing at infomercials and contemplating — and sometimes even succumbing to — the gimmicks over the years. And all of the conflicting information has left this girl confused! So this week I decided to ask Sue her expert opinion to help sort through all of the nonsense and get the facts. Knowledge is power, people!
Q: If I only have 30 minutes to exercise, what’s most effective?
A: A combination is always best. Cardio for improving cardiovascular endurance and calorie burning, weight training for muscular strength and lean muscle mass. Remember, muscle burns more calories than fat at rest.
Q: If I want to drop a few pounds, besides exercise, what can I do?
A: There are no shortcuts! Follow a balanced diet. Don’t go crazy, make smart choices and be sure you are staying in the daily recommended calorie range for your height and age. And, make sure to get at least 7 to 8 hours sleep in order to keep your metabolism running efficiently.
Q: What’s the quickest way to drop a few pounds by eliminating things from my diet?
A: Biggest culprit for most: SUGAR. Eliminate excess sugar from your diet.
Q: If I want a lean body, how do I go about doing that?
A: A balanced diet and a consistent exercise regime. Working out once a week doesn’t cut it. Aim for 30-60 minutes of cardiovascular exercise combined with weight training 3 to 4 times per week for optimal results.
Q: How many times a week do I need to work out to notice a difference? For how long?
A: For results that you can see and feel, aim for 3 to 4 workouts each week. Make sure your workout combines cardiovascular exercise and weight training. If you don’t have time for both, do your cardiovascular workout one day, your strength training the next day. Keeping on this track, you will notice a difference and feel better in about 3 to 4 weeks!
Q: Does lifting weights burn calories longer/while resting?
A: Yes. Strength training is essential for calorie burning. Lean muscle is your metabolic furnace that will burn extra calories/energy 24 hours daily and not just when you are exercising.
Q: How can I boost my metabolism?
A: To build metabolism, build lean muscle, stay away from sugars, eat breakfast, drink lots of water and get a good nights sleep.
Q: Does caffeine/coffee boost metabolism?
A: Actually, caffeine does the opposite. If you are trying to lose weight, it is recommended to stay AWAY from caffeine. Caffeine increases your appetite, increases your insulin resistance (making weight loss harder) and will have the opposite reaction of what you really want.
Q: Can stretching boost metabolism?
A: Stretching is part of a complete exercise plan. After a 5 minute warm-up, take another 5 minutes to stretch all of the muscles of the major muscle groups. Hold each stretch for about 30 seconds without bouncing. After your workout, take another 5 minutes to stretch again. Stretching will decrease your risk for exercise-related injuries such as muscle strains and back and knee problems
Q: Is it important to rest a day in between workouts?
A: Resting between strength training workouts is important. General rule of thumb: you should not workout the same muscle group two days in a row. For muscular growth and strength, your muscle needs to “heal” and recover. So, do arms one day, legs the other!”

We know that most girls have loved pink since they were little. But it can be tricky to incorporate pink into your wedding palette without it being overwhelming or tacky. However, if you pair it with the right color, pink can be fabulous! We love the contrast of the bright, vibrant, hot pink and the dark, classy, soothing navy blue. This color combination is perfect for a spring or summer wedding!

Alice in Weddingland was a huge success and thank you to all that made it possible! We had a tremendous “cast” to create this over-the-top production benefiting Brides Against Breast Cancer at The Ryan Manor in Dallas on April 1st! It is no April Fool’s joke when we say we had an absolutely fabulous team of event professionals to create this evening. We will show you more from the event, so stay tuned!
Our guests were met at the entrance by valet from Gold Crown! They then registered and quickly entered our spandex-pulled rabbit hole… complete with red carpet from Magic Moments Parties & Events and flanked with fantastic florals from the amazing DiFiori. Robin and her team really created a dream-like atmosphere that any bride would love to incorporate into her wedding! Kristie Vento from themarketingvenue.com was one of our extraordinary pros who made our marketing campaign as well as many, many other things for the event a huge success (it was an added bonus for her to have a lifelong love for Alice in Wonderland, she was our go-to expert for all questions Alice). Sarabeth and her fun team were the cutest assortment of cats we have ever seen. Not only were they adorable, but they were a sensational addition to the planning process. Lauren and Sarabeth were tireless event planners who (we hope) didn’t mind our late-night phone calls and made Alice in Weddingland a flawless soiree!
One of our donors, Rovia, was a dream come true to a lucky bride as they donated a honeymoon for the raffle. We were also lucky to have some brilliantly talented folks providing gifts for our guests. We had posta-bella and puckerupimpressions creating on-site readings and sketches and cleverlyinvite created our fun goody bags that were stuffed to the top with goodness, including custom water bottles by wrappersgalore. Shannon Caldwell, from Something-You was a fabulous artist that transformed our models for the fashion show, but surprised us all as she stepped up to donate an item for the raffle.
Eclipse Entertainment brought a stilt walker (to make us feel very small) and our very own “white queen” that served as our strolling buffet. Campisi’s and Jim Lee Catering were definitely on their “A” game with their incredible culinary delights. We even had “Eat Me” signs to point our guest to the deliciousness. While eating our guests could choose from a variety of beverages including delicious, warm coffee from Well Coffee or a “Blushing Bride” or “Alice’s Weddingland Dream” liquid catering from our very own mixologist provided by Drinks Fantastic.
i-entertainment’s Jason & Damany (a.k.a. Tweedledum & Tweedledee) set the tone for a fantastic evening of fun with their party prowess! Our guests enjoyed all the activities while lounging on beautiful furniture by Install2525. Guests could even partake in a wonderful game of “Bouquet Croquet”… complete with pink flamingos!
We were lucky to obtain an amazing tent from Big D Party Rentals that was perfect in every way! It provided shelter for the masterpiece cake provided by J. Dorian. Head over to their store to see it with your very own eyes. It was incredible. The tent, yard and trees were lit from our very talented light-a-teer Brad with es-events. Their team set up the evening before and seeing it in person made it reality. Those guys are truly artisans with light! Jay Cooper & Leslie Cole of Ducky Bob’s provided linens, tables, chairs and more to allow our guests an opportunity to take a load off and take it all in! The evening was brilliantly captured by Tony Valadez, Don Mamone and his wife Emily, and Daniel with Lynn Films.
Be sure to check back for more from the evening. There was too much to cover in one post!
