lovely day after wedding session in texas

We are really feeling the love for these day-after wedding sessions. Deep in the heart of New Mexico comes some beautiful golden light and it lends an added beauty to any wedding. Thank you for sending this submission to us Danielle – it is nothing short of lovely!

As always, we like to let our GSS readers see how it all comes together, so we get lots of insight from the bride and groom about the wedding or session. Thank you Karli for taking the time to answer our questions and tell us about your day after session with Danielle. Here is what she has to say ::

How did you and your husband meet?

– Well my husband, Tyler and I, both went to Texas Tech University! He was in his third year and I was in my fourth! I used to go bowling with a group of friends every Wednesday night (for those who know Lubbock, once you have been there a while there’s not much to do haha), and one night Tyler showed up! One of our mutual friends had invited him! So we all went bowling and he and I just hit it off from there! We talked for a while and we finally started dating 2 months later!

How long have you been together?

– We have been together 2 1/2 years as of now, and we have been married for 3 months!

How did he propose?

– Well one of the things we joke about was that when we first started dating I played very hard to get! I try to date guys that I would consider marrying! So naturally I wanted to make sure he was serious about us dating! So for our first date he took me to this place called ransom canyon right outside of Lubbock, and it was a surprise date so I knew nothing about it before! So basically ransom canyon is a big canyon that has a big lake in the middle and lots of pretty houses and scenery, so he took me to the top of one of the hills that over looked the lake and we had a picnic where he brought my favorite snack and we watched the sun go down! It was really sweet and from then on I knew he was serious! So because it meant so much to me that’s where he proposed! He blindfolded me that afternoon and said he had a surprise, so he drove me out there to the same spot and asked me to marry him! After that he had arranged for all of my family and his to meet at this nice restaurant to all have lunch! It was so nice!

What sold you on your wedding venue?

-Well the wedding venue was at first a pain, we had originally wanted to get married in Dallas Fort Worth area but we just couldn’t find anything we liked that was within our price range! So after lots of thinking and praying we decided to get married in Cedar Crest, NM where my mom and step dad live! My step dad is a preacher and we had known the whole time that we wanted him to marry us so after deciding to get married in his church everything just fell into place! His church, Mountainside United Methodist Church, is a small little church located right on the side of the Sandia Mountain! It’s a very intimate and personal church so we just loved it! For our reception my mom kept telling me that there was a golf course there in Sandia that was absolutely beautiful, and so she made an appointment for us to go look and once we saw it we knew we wanted to have it there!

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?

-Thank you! I loved my dress! The dress is a Maggie Sottero, and I found it in a small bridal shop in Dallas, TX. It was the fourth dress I tried on there and once I put it on I just fell in love with it!

What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife?

-Our first song was This Kind of Love, by Sister Hazel

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”?

-My something old and borrowed were the same they were these pearl and diamond earrings my mom had, my something new was my Tom’s shoes and my dress, and my something blue was actually a funny story. I sent my husband to pick out my garter and he decided to pin a little blue sea horse charm to it. Haha where that came from I have no idea but he decided that should be my something blue! I loved it!

How did you choose your wedding color palette?

-Well as most newly engaged women do they buy every wedding magazine available! So one afternoon my best friend who was my maid of honor and myself went to Barnes and Nobles to look at more magazines! At this point I still hadn’t fully decided what colors I wanted to do, so we were looking at this one magazine and there was a really pretty spread in this one magazine dealing with the color scheme of honey and wheat! And my best friend stopped and said Karli look at this this is so pretty! And after looking at all the flowers and stuff I knew that was the scheme I wanted to go with! So after that we knew the colors were honey (different shades of yellow from light yellow to golden), wheat (shades of tan and things like burlap), ivory, and then she suggested doing dark gray bridesmaid dresses and tuxes to go with those colors! So the final color was stone!

We love Tom’s shoes….tell us more about those?

-I found out about Tom’s shoes though my sister and my best friend! I just love them they are definitely one of my favorite shoes! I had known the whole time I didn’t want to wear heels with my dress cause it’s just uncomfortable, and once I knew the material to my dress I knew that heels would tear it if it snagged or anything, so I just decided to wear Tom’s! I picked out the vegan burlap Tom’s for two reasons, one they were burlap and that was the material I had all the bouquets and boutonniers wrapped in, and two they were my wedding colors so that pair just turned out to be perfect!

What was your favorite part of your big day?

– My favorite part was honestly everything, I finally got to marry my best friend and the love of my life, and all of our families were there to share it with us! And everything turned out far better and more amazing than i could have every imagined, from the flowers and the cake to the whole thing itself!

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?

– One of the main things that was important to me and to my husband during the planning was no stress. I know it’s hard not to but if you think about it the more you stress the less fun you have with it! That was our main goal was to have fun with the planning and to enjoy the whole process! It turned out better than I could have ever imagined!

For your day after session, how did you choose the location?

– I just want to say how much I appreciate and love Danielle my photographer! She is wonderful and does an amazing job with everything she does! She is so talented! When she mentioned doing a day after shoot I for one had never heard of a day after session and once she explained it to me we were super excited! So I talked to her and we decided to go to Old Town Albuquerque! It was near the area we were in and it just has lots of neat buildings and things to see!

Venue: Ceremony- Mountainside United Methodist Church, Cedar Crest, NM– Reception- Paa Ko Ridge Golf Club, Sandia Park, NM

Linens: (as far as linens at the reception I didn’t have any table cloths on any of the tables because the tables were all made of stone and wood which fit the theme of my wedding so I didn’t want any of them covered, the head table and the cake table however were covered, and the linens for that were provided by Paa Ko Ridge Golf Club)

Catering: Paa Ko Ridge Golf Club provided the meal for our reception, we were able to pick exactly what we wanted!

DJ/Band: DJ– Howlin’ Coyote Productions, Albuquerque NM

Videographer: I acutally didn’t have one I just had Danielle Patton my photographer!

Invitations/Wedding Stationery: RSVP Invitations and Stationary, Midland, TX

Thank you so much, Danielle, for sharing this amazing day after session with us!  Please stop by her blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Karli for answering our questions!  We wish you and Tyler a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!
