A Jewish wedding in a vineyard set in California, yes please…..With all of the hype about the Royal Wedding today, we feel like every bride is a princess. The way they glow on their wedding day. The way they see their prince waiting to spend the rest of their lives together. Its truly amazing and we are happy to share these moving moments with you as you plan your own wedding. Laura Parker sent us the beautiful Jewish wedding from sunny California at a vineyard via Two Bright Lights! Ashley and Roger’s wedding was a gorgeous celebration and we are thrilled to share it with you. We were able to catch up with Ashley and ask her a few questions…
How did you and your husband meet?
Roger and I were “officially” introduced about 6 or 7 years ago through family of his that i was mutual friends of…
How long have you been together?
we have been together about 5 years now..
How did he propose?
He was stationed in San Diego and my mom myself and my nephew went down to visit him for what i thought was a vacation.. (my mom knew the whole time that he was going to ask me) we were down there of r a week over our anniversary.. We wanted to have an “us” night so he took me to this awesome restaurant in la Jolla over looking the ocean.. i actually didn’t want to go since he was being kind of a jerk the whole day (we went to the San Diego zoo with my mom and nephew before dinner).. At dinner he was really fidgety and had gone through a lot of wine.. After dinner we were going to go for a walk on the beach but the tide had come in and brought with it a dieing animal.. so we decided to walk around up on the bluff.. the beautiful sunset that we saw at dinner quickly disappeared behind some ugly clouds ( apparently everything that he had planned to be romantic pretty much failed).. I had bought him a card for our anniversary which he quickly dismissed.. i was super upset because he opened it and immediately put it away.. He then gave me his present.. i was in total shock because he had made a scrapbook of our 3 years together.. it was so sweet and when i got to the last page it had said OUR ENGAGEMENT at the top of the page.. It didn’t really click until i looked up from the book and saw that he was down on one knee and asking me to be his wife!! of course the restaurant that was up on this bluff was full and you could see everyone starring out the window.. of course i said YES and the restaurant was cheering!!
What sold you on your wedding venue?
i had done sooooooo much shopping around with my mom and some of the service that we had received was undesirable.. there was another venue that i fell in love with but they treated me and my party terribly.. they had mentioned their sister site and if i had seen that yet.. my mom and i went with my aunt since roger was still in San Diego.. after we were offered a glass of champagne and 2 hours later i knew that i had found the right place.. it was absolutely gorgeous and the way that i was treated finally made me feel like a bride.
Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?
It is a sottero and midgley gown.. and i knew that it was the one because i had tried on A LOT of dresses and everyone says you will know.. it will just hit you.. after i saw it on the manikin i said that i needed to try that one on!! i wasn’t into lace.. nor was i into chiffon.. but the way it was laying on the manikin it just spoke to me.. when i put it on i just didn’t want to take it off.. i had not had that yet and i got really excited about it.. the other bride that was trying on gowns next to me said that i was glowing..
We love his shoes….tell us more about those?
He he.. it was actually a joke.. we said that we wanted to get each other a gift but we really weren’t wanting to go over the top.. he is one of those laid back kind of guys and when i went to finalize the tux order i saw them in the window and i knew that i had to get them for him..
How did you choose your wedding color palette?
We were driving to dinner one night and i had asked him what he was thinking he would like.. Of course he could have cared less.. the only thing he said was no pink!! He had just gotten a rose tattoo in red and i asked what he thought of red and black.. and just like that we had our colors.
Could you talk about the Huppah a little (its beautiful!)?
The Huppah is also known as the marriage canopy.. It has a few representations.. It is supposed to be open on all sides to welcome in all friends and family and the stranger.. the four posts are to represent the four post of a strong home and the cloth that covers the top is usually a piece of cloth that is handed down through the family that is to be used in the home as well as a memory of the day… i knew that we were going to be out doors so i wanted it to blend into the atmosphere.. so that’s why i had the wood and the hydrangeas .. and i wanted it to flow so i choose chiffon ( i also did not have a cloth that i wanted to use) and who wouldn’t want bling tucked in there to add a little sparkle..
What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife?
We choose From this Moment by Shania Twain and Brian Adams
What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”?
My something old was 2 things.. I was getting married in the ring that my grandmother did to my grandfather that was passed to my mother.. who passed that down to me.. I also was wearing a Pearl ring that was my grandmothers.. that also doubled as my something borrowed..
something new was my dress, jewelry and shoes
something blue i had a garter and an I DO under my shoes
Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?
to just remember that this is about you and the man that you are saying that you want to spend the rest of your life with.. something will go wrong no matter how you plan every detail and the drama is something that is unavoidable but when you walk down the aisle and see him standing at the end waiting for you it will all melt away..
What was your favorite part of your big day?
its kinda funny but when i saw everyone stand and look at me i couldnt take my eyes off of him!! the look that he gave me was something that i will never forget!!
