GSS Featured Wedding :: Lesli & Clifton’s Knoxville Wedding :: Shannon Kelly Photography

You’re in for a treat today!  Today we have a fabulous submission from Shannon of  Shannon Kelley Photography.  Shannon Kelley Photography is one of our preferred vendors and sponsors of GSS!  So please join us in giving Shannon a great BIG warm welcome to GSS!!!  Shannon Kelley Photography is based out of Knoxville, Tennessee.  Shannon has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

We are in love with the southern charm and class of this wedding!  This wedding is such breath of fresh air since we are all longing for spring/summer!

Lesli and Clifton were married on June 26, 2010 at the Cherokee Country Club on the Tennessee River in Knoxville.  What a GORGEOUS location with breath taking views of the Smokey Mountains!

Lesli was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Clifton meet?  We met through mutual friends one summer.

How long have you been together?  We had been together approximately 4 years before getting married.

How did Clifton propose?  Clifton proposed at Rosemary Beach…a total surprise on a family vacation!  The funny thing is that on the night of the proposal, Clifton had asked if we could go walk on the beach after dinner. I didn’t really think anything about it but as we started walking, he was acting totally awkward and kept his hands in his pocket. I was totally joking around and was asking him why he was acting funny, what he was doing, and even said, “you’re not going to propose to me or anything”? Oh sure enough, that’s totally what he was doing!  I felt so bad that I had ruined the moment that I totally started crying!

What sold you on your wedding venue?  Cherokee Country Club offered everything we wanted in a venue and more. I had wanted an outdoor wedding without being committed to staying outdoors all evening.  The club had an excellent terrace that has wonderful river views but has the amenities to host an indoor reception.  That was greatly appreciated by all of our guests considering the immense heat for a 6:30 wedding in June! Plus, the ballroom is has a great neutral pallet that can coordinate with many different colors.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? On a shopping trip with my friends, we went into The Bride Room in Nashville, TN. The dress was featured and was recommended by the owner.  She noted that it was one of her favorites and that I should try it on.  It was completely what I was looking for…simple yet still classy.  I loved it but just couldn’t commit the first day. I finally went back with family and got their approval.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?  My something old was my mother’s garter, borrowed was my maid of honor’s hankie and blue, well you know, come to think of it I didn’t have anything blue!

How did you choose your wedding color palette?  I am obsessed with all things apple green and knew that had to be one of the colors.  The purple was later added when we met with our florist.

What song did you dance to for your first dance?  Our first dance was to “Your Song” from Elton John.  I love the simplicity of that song and it always reminds me of the duet from Moulin Rouge, the movie.

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?  My only advice is to be true to yourself and your fiance…at the end of the day, it is really about the two of you.

What was your favorite part of your big day?  That is so hard to answer because there were so many great moments.  I really enjoyed seeing Clifton before we walked down the aisle. It was such a calming moment. The bridesmaids and I had a great time getting ready beforehand.  My grandmother and I had a great dance to one of our favorite songs.  The whole day was just really great and went by far to fast!
