GSS Inspiration Board :: Summer “Crush” Wedding Orange Yellow & Green

We certainly have a “crush” on this board. It just screams summer time wedding fun. As we get closer to the warmer months, we are loving outdoor themed weddings with a fun flare. The bouquet below reminds us how the bride attracts all eyes on her and what says that better than carrying a bouquet of flocking butterflies? And Wheatgrass…you can’t have a greener wedding than growing it yourself! These fun escort cards placed in Wheatgrass are adorable! Why not bring that to your wedding tables as well? Keep growing these treasures and add some colorful Gerbera Daisies in for a pop of color. Pockets!!! We love pockets. Drop your handkerchief in one and you are good to go during your vows if you get a little teary eyed. Need a little more lip gloss for those romantic portraits with your photographer just after you are pronounced husband and wife? You have a pocket to discreetly place some in it. Grooms wearing seersucker makes us want to sip lemonade on the front porch of a southern plantation while watching a tennis match on the front lawn. Ok, maybe not that much, but it certainly makes us think summertime wedding with fabulous style. Don’t forget to add your Orange and Strawberry Crush for your guests…fun colors and refreshed guests :: win win!

GSS Featured Wedding Vendor :: Think Photographics

Today’s featured wedding vendor is Scotty Perry, with Think Photographics from Louisville, KY. We are featuring Laura and Josh’s wedding because we love all of the delicious details, including the edible ones! The different orange tones of this wedding are so fun and vibrant. We can definitely see loads of personality with this wedding.

We asked Laura a few questions to help tell the story from her wedding day:

how did you and your husband meet?

A mutual friend introduced us one summer night at a bar in hopes that we would have a dance off, and  we did!

what’s your love story? (how did he propose?)

Josh proposed on my birthday (Halloween!). He carved a pumpkin and put it in a huge wrapped box. Inside the pumpkin was a box, and then another box, and then a ring!

were you surprised?

I was completely surprised! We had talked about getting married sometime in the near future, but there was no time table and I certainly had no idea he had bought a ring! I was in shock, happy shock, but shock.

what was your overall theme of the wedding?

Our theme was “let’s have an awesome, classy party”.  We wanted our wedding to be light-hearted and, most of all, FUN!

we see your colors are orange. is orange your favorite color? did you have any other colors throughout the wedding?

Yes, orange is my favorite color. I decided to use lots of shades of orange so that I wouldn’t have to be that crazy bride running around everywhere with a color swatch. Matching everything to 1-2 colors is really hard – so I just said, “If it’s orange, it works.”  We did not use any colors other than orange.

where did find all those orange paper lanterns for your wedding?

Well, that’s a funny story. I had a vision in my head of the lanterns, in varying shades of orange, everywhere. I bargain hunted online and in stores for months trying to find them at a reasonable price and in large enough quantities. (It took 200 lanterns to decorate the reception venue.)  Finally, I ended up ordering them directly from China! It was by far the cheapest option, even with international shipping.

how many guests were at your wedding?

how many attendants?

4 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen (1 of our groomsmen was overseas on military leave)

how many stores did you visit and how many dresses did you try on before you found “the one”?

I found the dress on the very first day actually! I know, I am a lucky girl. The designer was hosting a trunk show about 45 minutes away a week later, so I went to see what else they had (and had hopes for a trunk show discount). I tried the dress on again there and knew it was the one! I went into the whole shopping process with a clear idea of what I wanted in terms of shape, so that narrowed out a LOT of dresses. I would guess that I tried on 15 total.

your wedding dress is gorgeous. who designed your dress?

My dress is a Martina Liana – it’s from the very first collection. It is dupioni silk, with pockets, and has an amazing sheen. Box pleats are my favorite. LOVE IT!

where was your wedding and why did you pick that venue?

We got hitched at Caldwell Chapel, Louisville KY. We really wanted to get married in a chapel, but finding a chapel that holds 200 people was a little tricky. AND, my parents were married at Caldwell Chapel!

what is the story behind the cupcakes and the table where you were sitting?

The owner of The Cupcake Shoppe is a friend-of-a-friend. I have been in there a few times, and the store is just adorable. I thought it would be super fun to take some bride + groom photos somewhere non-traditional (and air-conditioned), and The Cupcake Shoppe came to mind! We asked permission about a week before the wedding, and TA-DA, awesome photos!

did you use an event planner (if so, who?) or were you a DIY bride?

I was a DIY bride. I had a very clear vision of what I wanted, and luckily I had my super-creative mom, family, and friends to help bring it to life. We actually had approximately 20 family and friends at the reception venue the day before the wedding helping us set up tables, hang lanterns, arrange centerpieces, etc. It was fabulous! I absolutely loved being so hands on in the decor process. The final product looked just as I had dreamed it would!

what was your favorite part of your big day?

Hmm, this is a tough one. If I had to pick one moment, it would be being chauffeured to the reception. Transportation is expensive, so my wonderful uncle graciously agreed to chauffeur us on our big day. He took his job very seriously. It was hilarious! He looked very “Men in Black” standing outside his black Lexus in a black suit and shades. He even dedicated a song to us in the car! Hahahaha.

do you have any advice for bride-to-be’s about wedding planning?

Start early! We got engaged in October 2008 and married in August 2009. I really didn’t start planning until January, and eight months was probably not enough time to plan a wedding without professional help. Also, whatever your budget is, plan to spend 10-20% more than that. It’s inevitable – you will be over budget. Just accept it and try to enjoy yourself.

do you have any advice for bride-to-be’s on what to do or what not to do on the big day?

DIY brides can’t do everything yourself – especially not on your big day. Ask a reliable friend/family member that is not in the wedding party to be your go-to person on the day of your wedding. I had a fabulous lady that took care of all of the last minute mishaps that I couldn’t attend to myself (since I was in a poofy white dress). ie. deliver boutonnieres to the guys before their photos, help everyone get down the aisle in order, etc.

Laura and Josh, you look like a fun couple! Thanks for sharing your wedding with us!
