GSS Featured Wedding :: Shae & Drew’s Intimate Park Wedding :: Rachael Lindsy Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!! Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Rachael of Rachael Lindsy Photography, a Dallas/Fort Worth based wedding photographer. Rachael has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Shae and Drew were married on April 28, 2012 at Trinity River Park in Fort Worth, Texas.  Shae was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Drew meet? Drew found me on Facebook! He saw me on our church’s Facebook page and took it upon himself to invite me to our church’s young adult group.  I met Drew several weeks later (at the young adult service) and began hanging out with him and his friends.  We started dating a month later.

How long have you been together? Met (July 2010), Started Dating (August 2010), Engaged (September 2011), Married April 2012

How did Drew propose? Drew took me to my favorite restaurant and then a movie.  Afterward he drove to the top of a parking garage where he got out and danced with me to a sweet playlist that he had created.  He slipped the ring on my finger and received a yes with no hesitation.

What sold you on your wedding venue? We fell in love with the old brick pavilion (built before the Depression) and the beautiful huge trees (something we don’t often see in Dallas/Fort Worth).

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I found my dress while looking through dresses online.  I absolutely loved the non-traditional look of the Watters dress! Bliss Bridal Salon ordered a sample for me.  I loved it! It was the first (and only dress) I tried on!

How did you choose your wedding color palette? We didn’t want to take away from the beautiful outdoor setting, so I went with neutral colors (ivory and beige) with pops of blue (my favorite)!

What song did you dance to for your first dance? Without You – Ben Rector (This is our favorite song, we walked back down the aisle to it. We actually decided to have lawn games at out wedding instead of dancing!)

Do you have any advice for bride and grooms that are in the planning process? Plan your wedding as if you’re simply planning a big party for friends and family! You don’t need a huge budget. Make your day personal, fun, and memorable by choosing out-of-the-box things that you love! Our guests raved the most about unusual things we chose (we served bundt cakes and cheesecakes in small jars instead of a wedding cake, we played lawn games instead of dancing). Your guests will enjoy your wedding if you do!

Oh, and I made many of the decorations for our wedding. Drew and I also had a lot of fun shopping antique stores to find all of the perfect vintage decor!

What was your favorite part of your big day? It was such a rush on the wedding day… we decorated our venue, left to get ready, and were back at the park by 1pm for our “first look” photo shoot.  After all of the rushing, it was so perfect to spend a quiet moment with my handsome groom!

Also, we chose to walk down the aisle together. Drew made me laugh and we just had a good time together, those last few seconds before the ceremony started.

GSS Wedding Inspiration Board :: Orange & Red

We love how bright and rich the color palette of Orange and Red is.  This palette is extremely versatile as it could be used any time of the year.  Normally, one would think of Orange and Red as a very Autumnal color palette.  But by brightening up the hues of Orange and Red, this palette would make a phenomenal Spring or Summer wedding color palette! Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  If you LOVE vintage, handmade and outdoor weddings, then boy, are you in for a treat today!!!  Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Katie Scott of SWOON by Katie, a California based wedding photographer. Katie has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Jessica and Jeff were married on August 20, 2011 in a beautiful ceremony at the Willow Creek Ranch in Valley Center, California.  Katie was kind enough to share a little bit about the big day with us:

“To say I adore this couple would be an understatement. I love their chemisty, their excitement and their sweet genuine spirits. I go way back with Jessica, as she was one of the models for Lo Boheme’s Lookbook last year! Then I got the priviledge of shooting her engagement and then her wedding. It has been such a pleasure to get to know her and Jeff’s families. They really are incredible people, and even better together than they are apart. They put SO much work into their wedding and it was so ridiculously pretty. I was just in awe. The light, the details, the portraits, the people…everything was just perfect. Thanks to my friend Harmony for shooting with me for this one! Enjoy!”

GSS Wedding Tips :: Plan B Due to Inclement Weather

Wedding season has started and rain showers are upon us. Its that time of year. So, its your wedding day and now it has decided to pour buckets and you have planned this extravagant outdoor wedding of your dreams for over a year. What now?

We asked this very question to one of our real wedding featured brides

We hear its good luck to rain on your wedding day. What did you think when it started to rain?

Oh wow – I think I was in shock!  The storm that blew in really hadn’t been predicted, so we were all set up outside.  No one could see me, but I was actually sitting right behind the barn in the car with my Dad and all the girls, watching the storm blow in, watching the tents and place cards go flying, and watching all our guests running through the mud up to the barn.  We couldn’t stop laughing!  I knew it was out of my hands and I just had to throw up my hands and take the ride!  Luckily we had an AMAZING wedding coordinator (Amanda of At Last Event Planning) who handled it all in stride and kept things moving smoothly.  In the end I think the rain truly made the day (our engagement day and our wedding day!)  and will hopefully bring us lots of luck in the years to come!

What will be your plan B?

Is there enough room in an indoor space at your venue for your ceremony and all of your guests?

If they ceremony and reception are in the same location with an outdoor ceremony, can they flip the room from ceremony to reception easily?

Let us know in a comment if you had to activate your plan B or if you are stressed it could happen to you as well. If you can take one thing from this post, Elizabeth loved that it rained on her day…. she said, “the rain truly made the day”.
