Father of the Bride :: Daddy’s Little Girl :: Moments That Make Your Heart Melt

Since Sunday was Father’s Day, it made us think of the very special moments shared by a Father and his daughter during her wedding.  And although there are many magical, touching, and special moments during a wedding, there are a couple of moments during the wedding day that tend to steal the hearts of those who are lucky enough to witness them:  The father of the bride catching his first glimpse of this little girl as a bride and the father/daughter dance.  These … [Read More…]

GSS Featured Wedding :: Shae & Drew’s Intimate Park Wedding :: Rachael Lindsy Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!! Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Rachael of Rachael Lindsy Photography, a Dallas/Fort Worth based wedding photographer. Rachael has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Shae and Drew were married on April 28, 2012 at Trinity River Park in Fort Worth, Texas.  Shae was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Drew meet? Drew found me on Facebook! He saw me on our church’s Facebook page and took it upon himself to invite me to our church’s young adult group.  I met Drew several weeks later (at the young adult service) and began hanging out with him and his friends.  We started dating a month later.

How long have you been together? Met (July 2010), Started Dating (August 2010), Engaged (September 2011), Married April 2012

How did Drew propose? Drew took me to my favorite restaurant and then a movie.  Afterward he drove to the top of a parking garage where he got out and danced with me to a sweet playlist that he had created.  He slipped the ring on my finger and received a yes with no hesitation.

What sold you on your wedding venue? We fell in love with the old brick pavilion (built before the Depression) and the beautiful huge trees (something we don’t often see in Dallas/Fort Worth).

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I found my dress while looking through dresses online.  I absolutely loved the non-traditional look of the Watters dress! Bliss Bridal Salon ordered a sample for me.  I loved it! It was the first (and only dress) I tried on!

How did you choose your wedding color palette? We didn’t want to take away from the beautiful outdoor setting, so I went with neutral colors (ivory and beige) with pops of blue (my favorite)!

What song did you dance to for your first dance? Without You – Ben Rector (This is our favorite song, we walked back down the aisle to it. We actually decided to have lawn games at out wedding instead of dancing!)

Do you have any advice for bride and grooms that are in the planning process? Plan your wedding as if you’re simply planning a big party for friends and family! You don’t need a huge budget. Make your day personal, fun, and memorable by choosing out-of-the-box things that you love! Our guests raved the most about unusual things we chose (we served bundt cakes and cheesecakes in small jars instead of a wedding cake, we played lawn games instead of dancing). Your guests will enjoy your wedding if you do!

Oh, and I made many of the decorations for our wedding. Drew and I also had a lot of fun shopping antique stores to find all of the perfect vintage decor!

What was your favorite part of your big day? It was such a rush on the wedding day… we decorated our venue, left to get ready, and were back at the park by 1pm for our “first look” photo shoot.  After all of the rushing, it was so perfect to spend a quiet moment with my handsome groom!

Also, we chose to walk down the aisle together. Drew made me laugh and we just had a good time together, those last few seconds before the ceremony started.

GSS Featured Wedding :: Open Light Studio :: Christina & Dan’s Savannah Forsyth Park Wedding

Happy Friday, Lovelies!!!  Today’s featured wedding was submitted to us by Nate & Laura Henderson of Open Light Studio in Savannah, Georgia.

Nate Henderson is the principal wedding photographer at Open Light Studio. He specializes in crafting fine art photographs of your wedding day as well as documenting the natural progression of events. Nate graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design where he met his wonderful wife, Laura. Their images have been published in The Knot, Hilton Head Monthly, Life Images, and on the cover of SCAD Alumni. Nate is a member of Professional Photographers of America.

Christina and Dan were married in Savannah, Georgia in the middle of Forsyth Park right in front of the Forsyth fountain on a (mostly) clear day.

Christina custom made her wedding dress from her own design with silk she bought while on a trip to Italy.

Dan wore J. Crew seersucker vest and blue tie, while the groomsmen wore searsucker ties.

Christina & Dan’s wedding was pretty much completely DIY.  A homemade cupcake and honeybee hive cake were delicious desserts for the wedding day, along with personalized honey jars as gifts for each guest.

The flowers were all done by the wedding party and friends. WOW!  What an awesome job!

The reception immediately followed in a tent directly behind the ceremony chairs; The very famous Paula Deen’s Lady and Sons barbecue was in full force, along with the cheese biscuits and sweet tea (all quite fabulous, and a Savannah classic).  And yes, Christina donned an apron to keep the barbecue off her custom made silk wedding dress!

They wandered the streets around Forsyth for their portraits after it rained during the ceremony (not too badly though, thankfully!).

Thank you so much, Nate & Laura, for sharing this sweet DIY wedding with us!  Please stop by their website by clicking here or by their blog by clicking here and show them some love!  Please let them know that GSS sent you.  And Christina & Dan, we wish you a lifetime of love, laughter, and happiness!!!
