GSS Featured Wedding :: Savanna & Aaron’s Country Chic Wedding :: MJ Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Mindy Cowart of MJ Photography, an East Texas based wedding photographer.   Mindy has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Savanna and Aaron were married on April 16, 2011 in a beautiful ceremony at the Stone Oak Ranch in Murchison, Texas.  Savanna was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Aaron meet? We met in high school after his family moved to my town.  My best friend and I “stalked” the “hot” new senior all of our freshman year. Close to the end of that school year we realized my little sister and his little sister had become best friends so we started prodding them for info about each other. But a year passed while he went off to college before we ran into each other in the local grocery store. And for the last five years we have been inseparable ever since. :)

How long have you been together? Almost five full years already!

How did Aaron propose? He planned a whole proposal but was so excited when he got the ring from the jeweler.  He had it specially made and took a few weeks to get it in.   The anticipation must have been killing him because he called me  on accident and before he knew what he was saying the words “I GOT YOUR RING IN!!!” popped out.  Confused I said “What ring??”   He responded with, “Ummmm NEVER MIND! Gotta go, I’ll see you later!”  But I kept questioning the odd phone call that afternoon so finally he pulled out a little red box and said “This ring” …

What sold you on your wedding venue? The venue fit out personalities perfectly, country for me and my family with style for him and his… We fell in love with it immediately and to avoid having to pay the higher cost of booking since the price change deadline was two days away from the day we toured it, we went home that night, discussed it and placed our deposit the very next day.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I had “the dress” designed in my mind before I ever tried one on.  My dress was actually only the third dress I tried on, but it was not what I was looking for.  However, thanks to the great staff at David’s Bridal, I was able to customize the neck line from a straight cut to a semi sweetheart, the back from a standard zip closure to a beautiful lace up, the flare from flat to a slight A-line with a trumpet petti skirt, and added the beautiful three-tier bustle where there was none before.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”? Something old was my Great Grandmother’s ring, something new was everything,  something borrowed was my Grandmother’s bracelet and something blue were the boots I wore.

How did you choose your wedding color palette? I didn’t pick a particular “palette” instead I chose a “style.”  French country meets country chic is the best I can describe it…  A mix of floral prints, woods, soft lace, burlap and beautiful spring mix floral arrangements set the tone for our reception but we really just used the natural beauty of the venue for the ceremony.

Do you have any advice for bride and grooms that are in the planning process? Let/make him help, he’ll regret it if he doesn’t … Aaron didn’t do a lot but I forced him to help with the “silly” decisions like what type of filler flowers and what flavor icing to use on the cake… In the end he had something he could say he did and it made the day a little more special for us both.  And be sure that you don’t let it all get too overwhelming,  it will ruin the whole experience.

What song did you dance to for your first dance? We picked Brantley Gilbert’s “My Kind of Crazy”.

What was your favorite part of your big day? We loved everything about our special day!  But some memorable moments were when my Great Aunt talked the DJ into changing the song on our first dance half way through from “my kind of crazy” to “love shack” shocked both of us, but got a good laugh. Then one of my flower girls sang “Ring of Fire “by Johnny Cash to us and all our guests..  She was only four but knew every word. And of course the “I Do’s”, even though I got a case of the giggles about half way through … Not sure what had me so tickled but I really had to fight the urge to bust out laughing and that had the officiant a little tickled too.

GSS Featured Wedding :: Talina & Keith’s Houston Wedding :: Zasey Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  You’re all in for a treat today!!!  Man, our submissions just keep getting better and better!!!  Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Amber Strickler of Zasey Photography, a Houston, Texas based wedding photographer.  Amber has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Talina and Keith were married on March 12, 2011 at Agave Road in Katy, TX.  What an amazing venue!  Talina was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Keith meet? Keith and I met on Match.com! We exchanged emails and chatted on the phone for about 2 weeks until I asked him to meet up in person…I was pretty gutsy!! ;-)

How long have you been together? We’ve been together 3 years & 2 months.

How did Keith propose? Oh wow it was amazing and I was totally surprised. It’s a long story, but let me try to give you a short version: We had been planning a trip to Boston to visit some of his friends–and stay with them. Also in the meantime we had picked out a ring, but I wasn’t aware Keith had it. Keith basically schemed with his friends in Boston and set up this whole elaborate plan for one of the nights we were there. Us and his friends had dinner plans one evening, but Keith’s friends all a sudden had an “unexpected friend” come in town and they had to go pick him up from the Boston Harbor Hotel & take him out to dinner. They asked that Keith and I meet up with them after dinner, for drinks. In my mind, I was so confused as to why Keith and I were not included for the dinner part, but went with it anyways because Keith and I were going to eat at this cute Italian restaurant that Keith’s friends had highly recommended. After dinner, we headed over to the Boston Harbor Hotel to meet up with his friends and the “unexpected friend”, for drinks in the “unexpected friend’s” hotel room. When we arrived, Keith and I walked directly up to the hotel room where Keith pulled out a hotel key! I was so confused how he had a key and right then Keith explained to me that he was surprising me with a room for the evening and that his friends brought all of our belongings to the hotel while we were at dinner. All a sudden I realized, there was no “unexpected friend” that came into town. Keith’s friends made that up so they could get out of the dinner plans with us and take care of everything for the evening…..and wow did they!!! I walked into the hotel room to find rose petals all over the floor & bed, champagne, strawberries and a view of the Boston Harbor from our window! It was gorgeous!! As Keith and I were checking out the view, I looked to my right and he was down on one knee asking me to marry him! :)   I was a ball of tears and smiles! Keith really did an awesome job and completely fooled me, which is very hard to do! It was an over the top evening!

What sold you on your wedding venue? The venue itself sold me! The moment my mom and I walked into the place, I said “where do I sign?” It’s gorgeous and nothing I had ever seen before! I had several other venue appointments and never went to the rest of them. Agave Road was the first place I went to and booked it that day! You totally feel like you are some place else there and that’s what I liked the most…..it wasn’t a “typical” wedding venue to me.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I got it at David’s Bridal, which was the last place I went to (out of 3 dress stores) and it was also the last dress I tried on. I knew it was the one because of the way it fit on me. I loved the style of the dress and the intricate beading on certain parts of it. When I put it on and saw how it really fit me like a glove, I knew it was the one!

How did you choose your wedding color palette? Well I knew I wanted deep purple (like an eggplant color) for sure….it’s my favorite color! Then I went to the bridal extravaganza in Houston and saw a place setting that was deep purple with accents of a bright green, almost a lime color. I thought it rocked!!! I loved it and that’s how I incorporated the green.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”? Something Old: it was actually my grandmother’s silver cake cutter from her wedding. I was planning to use it at my wedding, but completely forgot to bring it to the venue! :(   Something new: my dress & jewelry. Something borrowed: my best friend/matron of honor’s veil from her wedding. Something blue: it was going to be a blue garter, but I ended up finding a super cute purple one last minute and couldn’t pass up using it! :)

What song did you dance to for your first dance? Faithfully by Journey

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process? It’s NEVER too early to start planning!!! Getting the venue (and date) booked first, is a must, and then figuring our your guest list is also one of the first things to do, because everything you plan for, & order, is based off that headcount!!  Stay organized and ahead of the game and you won’t be as stressed towards the end. Also, soak up the wedding planning process….it happens once and it also flies by!

What was your favorite part of your big day? I have two! One was being walked down the aisle by my Dad and Step-Dad and seeing Keith for the first time at the end of the aisle. Life was so perfect in that moment. :)   The other is getting ready in the bridal suite with all my girls before the wedding…..it was so much fun and we had a blast!

GSS Featured Wedding :: Kelsey & Bryan’s Rustic Fall Texas Wedding :: Ryan Price Photography

Happy Friday, Lovelies!!!  Today’s fabulous featured wedding was submitted to us by Ryan Price of  Ryan Price Photography, a Texas based wedding photographer.  Ryan has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with him on this feature.

Kelsey and Bryan were married on August 28, 2010 at Amber Springs  in Montgomery, Texas.  What a beautiful venue! Kelsey was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How long have you and Bryan been together?  We’ve been together for 4 and a half years.

What sold you on your wedding venue?   I wanted something outdoors and rustic but that had an indoor venue for the reception that could be used as a back up in case of bad weather.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?  Honestly, this is a funny question. I hate shopping and especially trying on clothes. As excited as I was to get married, finding a wedding dress still fit into that shopping/trying on clothes category. We had 3 dress appointments one day to look at dresses. The one I picked was at the first store, and it was maybe the third dress I tried on. I knew it was “the one” cause it had pockets, everyone loved it, it was reasonably priced, and I didn’t want to shop anymore. I canceled the other appointments and stopped looking. Done & done!   Haha!

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?  One of my bridesmaids gave me a bracelet on the wedding day that was blue, I borrowed another one of my bridesmaid’s rings that was borrowed and old, and then everything else I had was new.

How did you choose your wedding color palette?  My favorite colors are shades of blue and I wanted summer colors… I didn’t really stick to one color palette.  I just went with whatever I liked and looked good.

What song did you dance to for your first dance?   Everything” by Michael Buble.

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?  Everything can get done… even at the last minute. I waited until about 3 weeks before to do cakes, flowers & many other little tasks… more expensive doesn’t always mean better. The best thing I did was completely stop stressing and worrying about anything a few days before. What’s done is done and what’s not isn’t but you might as well enjoy yourself.

What was your favorite part of your big day?  Oh gosh, I don’t have any complaints at all… the whole thing was my favorite. There were a few things that I was really pleasantly surprised by… my DJ went over and beyond his normal DJ duties, making sure the wedding party and my family always had a drink or food if they wanted it. He made sure Bryan and I sat down and ate something. If he hadn’t gone and made us a plate, I would have never eaten my own food! The wedding planner just made everything so easy and laid back for my family and I.
