GSS Featured Wedding :: Kristin & Cody’s Elegant Summer Texas Wedding :: Krystle Akin Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  Today’s featured wedding comes from Krystle of Krystle Akin Photography. She is an East Texas based wedding photographer.  Krystle has been so accommodating to GSS on this feature.  Thank you!  Kristin and Cody were married in The Woodlands, Texas on July 23, 2011.  Kristin was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Cody meet?  We are both Texas A&M graduates, so we had several mutual friends. I was having a girls’ night, he was having a guys’ night, my friends knew his friends & his friends knew my friends. :)  We met up at a Wade Bowen Concert (another Texas country event) and that’s where our story began!

How long have you been together?  We met in January 2010, began dating shortly after…He proposed 11 months later in December. We have been together 1 year, 7 months and married 2 months, Sept 23.

How did Cody propose?  I’m a teacher so during my Christmas break I went to visit him because we were in a long distance relationship until we were married (3 hours away from each other). He had just bought a house (our house now)… he didn’t have cable yet so needless to say we were trying to entertain ourselves. He had plans to propose the following day but he couldn’t wait another day. We were sitting on the couch, he asked “how do you picture me proposing to you.” I said that I didn’t want anything fancy or anything that would cause attention; I told him “I want you to propose when you felt like you have never loved me more than that very minute. Make sure I look cute though when you ask me! Haha!” One hour later, we were playing hangman on a dry erase board (trying to keep ourselves entertained) and it was “the final hangman” and it read “Look in the cabinet above the desk.” I still had no idea what was going on… looked in the cabinet, saw a ring box, turned around, and he was on one knee. He then said “Kris, I have never loved you more than I do right now. Will you marry me?”  I said yes and then we BOTH jumped up and down, over and over!

P.S.- I was wearing his flannel pajamas, a tank top, a leopard headband, and NO MAKE-UP. I thought he didn’t pay attention to the fact that I told him that I wanted to look cute but he said “To me, that’s when you are the cutest.”

What sold you on your wedding venue?  I am from Palestine (east Texas) and he is from Nederland (southeast Texas) so we knew that we wanted to choose a location that was an equal distance for both families/friends to travel. We fell in love with the church, Robb Chapel at The Woodlands United Methodist Church at first sight. The only criteria I had for the church is that it had one center aisle that opened up to two double doors.  The reception at Woodlands Resort was an easy choice as well. Since we were making people travel, we wanted our reception to be traditional but yet with a FUN twist- basically a celebration/party for all of our guests! Plus it was beautiful once the sunset and you could see the pond outside the glass room. So it had an indoor/outdoor feel but air conditioned!

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?  I loved my dress!! It was by the designer Watters and we found it at Brickhouse Bridal of The Woodlands. I actually picked out the sash first but knew I wanted a dress that was fitting and simple so that way the sash would stand out. It would have been the first dress I tried on but my mom made me try on a poofy, Cinderella dress first. Yuck! Not for me! Otherwise, it would have been the first and last dress I tried on.  From the second I put the dress on; I loved it and could picture myself wearing it on my big day!!

How did you choose your wedding color palette?  EASY! My favorite color is purple, so we did various shades of purple.

What song did you dance to for your first dance?  We are HUGE Texas Country fans so of course… One Woman by Randy Rogers Band.

Do you have any advice for bride and grooms that are in the planning process?  Have fun! Do not stress!! It goes by too fast!

What was your favorite part of your big day?  Seeing Cody’s face when I walked down the aisle.

GSS Featured Day After Session :: Wendy & Billy’s F-U-N Filled Session :: Tara Swain Photography

Today’s fabulous featured Day After session comes from Tara Swain of Tara Swain Photography. We fell head over roller skates when we saw this AH-Mazing submission in our inbox!  (Roller skates, skateboards, feathers, and pillow fights- OH MY!) Tara Swain is an East Texas and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas based wedding photographer.  Tara has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Wendy and Billy were married on August 15, 2010.  This shoot is a double feature, actually… Wendy has just started her very own wedding planning business named “Birds of a Feather Events.”  (Scroll on down, you’ll see a feather theme going on- And now you know why!  So, so cool!)  Without further ado, we are proud to introduce you today to both Tara Swain AND Wendy!

Wendy was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Billy meet? Billy and I met through mutual friends.  We had been hanging out in the same circle and frequenting the same spots, but we had never really spoken to each other.  After a string of nights where our group had hung out pretty much every night I decided should send him a friend request on Facebook.  After reading each other’s pages we realized that we had a ton of stuff in common and it might be nice to actually carry on a conversation the next time we all hung out.  He met up with me and my friends later that evening and the rest is history, we have been inseparable ever since!

How long have you been together? We started dating Memorial Day weekend of 2009, so only about a year and a half.  When you know, you know! :)

How did he propose? About a week after we started dating he picked me up from work and took me to lunch at 8.0’s in downtown Fort Worth.  As we were walking to the restaurant he stopped me on the street corner and asked me to be his girlfriend, which I thought was super cute!  So, when it came time to pop the big question he took me back to that same street corner.  He pretended like we were going to dinner downtown, but he stopped me on that same street corner and asked me to marry him.   After he proposed he took me to the restaurant where we had our first date, Piranha Killer Sushi in North Arlington.

When was your wedding date? This is a bit of a long story, but I will give you a short version.  Before he ever proposed he set the wedding date, 8.16.10.  This date was based on my birthday being on 6.16 and his being on 10.16, and 8.16 was right in the middle.  So for months we would always text each other when it was 8:16am/pm, send pictures of things with 816 in it, our address is even 3816.  Once we were officially engaged and were planning the wedding we realized that 8.16 was not going to work for everyone since it was a Monday.  We thought for a long time about it and decided to compromise, we would have the wedding and reception on 8.15, but sign the marriage license on 8.16 so that our anniversary would be 8.16.  So, I guess we really get 2 anniversaries now, right?!

Your wedding dress is GORGEOUS! Where did you get it? Thank you!  It is by Simone Carvalli and it was my dream dress!  I had originally just thought I would get a dress at David’s Bridal and not spend too much money on it, that is, until I saw my dress in a bridal magazine.  I could not stop thinking about it and I couldn’t seem to find anything comparable anywhere!  I decided to search online and try to find the price, but it was not listed anywhere.  Only one store in the entire metroplex carries Simone Carvalli, Stardust Celebrations.  I went to their website and as luck would have it they were having a Simone Carvalli trunk show the following weekend!  I set my appointment, with a woman named Wendy even, and when I showed up my dress was the only one they did not have!  I tried on other styles, but my heart was set on 7135.  Wendy sent me home dressless, but promised to track the dress down for me.  She called me about 2 weeks later telling me she had found the dress and it was being shipped so I could try it on.  Luckily the dress was within my budget and we purchased the gown on Valentine’s Day (Awe, lol)

We understand that you recently launched your own wedding planning business named “Birds of a Feather Events”- How exciting!!! Tell us about it: Wow, where to begin?!  I’ve been working in television in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for the past 9 years, editing, directing, making motion graphics etc.  I’ve always dreamt of working for myself and doing something that involves creativity and my passion for organization, haha!  With so many friends getting married this year, not to mention my own wedding, it was something that I just fell into at first, then realized that I had an overwhelming desire to make it a career.  I really get involved with all of my brides and take on their wedding days as if they were my own, pouring over decor selections, cakes, flowers, invitations, making sure everything is the perfect fit for that particular couple.  I don’t really care for the over the top, cookie cutter style weddings.  My focus is on doing something unique, something that not only fits the couple’s style and interests, but something that none of the guests will have seen before.  You can visit my website at www.Birds-of-a-Feather-Events.com and also “Like” our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/birdsofafeatherevents.

Below are some of Wendy’s head shots for Birds of a Feather Events.  So adorable, fun, and creative!

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process? Hire a wedding planner of course!  But seriously, if a planner is not in your budget or if you prefer to plan everything solo, at least hire a day of coordinator.  They will save your wedding, trust me!  The last thing you want to do on your big day is call vendors, do set up at your ceremony and reception, or clean up/fix any problems that arise….and trust me, something WILL go wrong, most likely the thing you least expect.  Also, try to do as many DIY projects as you feel comfortable with.  Personal touches go a long way in making your wedding personal and rememberable!

What was your favorite part of your big day? I wouldn’t say I have a favorite moment, more like highlights!  I loved doing our First Look, they are my favorite pictures from the entire day and I highly recommend doing them to anyone.  Billy and I only had one member in our wedding party, our flower girl.  I decided to ask my mother to be my matron of honor a few weeks prior to the wedding, but I waited to surprise her and ask her right before the ceremony started.  That was a very special moment for me.  Being introduced as the new Mr. and Mrs. Tylaska was pretty great, as was dancing with my father.

And lastly, what was your inspiration for your day after shoot? One of the many things Billy and I have in common is we both grew up skating, me on roller skates and him on a skate board.  Skating was a huge part of our lives growing up and Billy still skates today and I get to the rink every now and then.  I really love pictures where the couple incorporates their interests into the shots and adds some character to them, they seem so much more interesting and dynamic than just a simple shot in a field or of them sitting on a park bench.  I came to Tara with the idea of having some feathers floating in the air in front of us during the wedding gown portion of the shoot and she loved the idea.  Once I told her that the most economical way to get the feathers was from down pillows, she had a light bulb moment and decided we should do a full on pillow fight!  Billy totally cheated though, he was pulling fists full of feathers from the pillow and throwing them into my face.  I had feathers in my mouth, feathers in my throat, feathers in my eyes…you get the idea!  We were finding feathers for days afterwards.  I also bought some cupcakes so we could do a “cake smash”, like a food fight, but with cake and at a close range…but Billy wasn’t having it.  I really don’t blame him, staining our clothes probably wasn’t the best idea!  Hopefully Tara can pass my idea along and talk someone else into it, I would love to see those photos!

Thank you so much, Tara, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Wendy, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We wish you luck with Birds of a Feather Events– We know you’ll be a HUGE success!  And we wish you and Billy a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

GSS Featured Engagement :: Jessi & Turner’s 1940’s Themed Engagement :: Adren Prucha Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  You’re all in for a treat today!!!  We absolutely melted when we received this submission in our inbox.  Today’s fabulous featured engagement comes from Arden Prucha Photography a Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas based wedding photographer.  Arden has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Jessi and Turner are to be married on May 29, 2011.   Jessi was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How long did you date before the proposal OR How long have you been together?  Turner and I have been together for about 4 years now.

Have you picked your venue?  If so, what made you choose this location?  Very soon after the proposal, we booked the Rose Chapel for May 29th, 2011. It is perfect for our vintage, 1940’s big band wedding.

At what point did you know that Turner was “the one”?  Everything really started falling into place. I wasn’t your typical girl, who has had this planned her whole life.  But it has turned into the most amazing time! I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful man in my life.

Besides getting engaged, what is your favorite memory as a couple?  There are a ton of memorable moments, it’s hard to pick!

How did Turner propose?  I was getting ready for dinner and fireworks and he was playing our song on the piano. I came running out of the bathroom and was so surprised he had learned it. “Strangers in the night” the Cake version.  He stopped playing and pulled the ring box out of the piano, acting as if something was wrong with the piano.  After that, I don’t remember much.  He said I just kept cussing him, saying ” Are you effing serious?!”  It was pretty embarrassing when his parents asked and we had to repeat that story!

Were you surprised?  It took him forever to propose! Ha ha.  It was a complete surprise.

What made you choose Arden as your photographer?  Oh Arden, I love that girl!  I use to wait tables with her about 10 years ago.  I found her on facebook and really liked what I saw.   She made the whole experience so wonderful.

Thank you so much, Arden, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Jessi, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We hope your wedding is everything that you have ever dreamed of and wish you and Turner a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

GSS Featured Engagement :: Jennifer & Shane’s Industrial Dallas Engagement :: Meegan Weaver Photography

Today’s fabulous featured engagement comes from Meegan Weaver Photography, a Texas based wedding photographer.  Meegan has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Jennifer and Shane are to be married on October 29, 2010.   Jennifer was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Shane meet?  Shane and I met through mutual friends shortly after I moved to Dallas.  We we’re friends for 9 months before I asked him to be my date to a friends wedding.  We’ve been dating ever since.

How long did you date before the proposal OR How long have you been together?  We’ve been together for almost 3 years!

Have you set a date yet?  We’re getting married October 29, 2010.

Have you picked your venue?  If so, what made you choose this location?  We’re getting married at The Filter Building on White Rock Lake.  We wanted to be able to have the ceremony outside and what better place than right on a lake!  We also fell in love with the industrial, 1920’s building with all of its character and unique history.

At what point did you know that Shane was “the one”?  I knew immediately that Shane was unlike any other guy I had dated.  It was easy for me to envision spending the rest of my life with him.

Besides getting engaged, what is your favorite memory as a couple?  We have a lot of good memories, so its hard to just choose one, but one of my favorite memories was when we flew out to Washington for Shane to meet my parents for the first time.  I was a little nervous because Shane was the first guy that I brought home to seriously meet my parents, but it couldn’t have gone any better.  They immediately fell in love with Shane and made him feel like he was part of the family.  Needless to say he got their stamp of approval.

How did Shane propose?  We were in Santa Fe for my birthday and for my cousin’s wedding.  We had gone on a hike together and we were enjoying the perfect Santa Fe weather.  When we had reached the top of the mountain I was ready to continue on our hike, but Shane had wanted to take a minute longer to take in the view.  I noticed he was acting a little weird but I couldn’t quite figure out why until he told me that he had a question for me….He then got down on one knee and proposed.

Were you surprised?  I was very surprised.  I always thought that when that moment came I would have a sense it was coming, but with so much going on with my birthday and cousin’s wedding I guess Shane caught me at a time when I was least expecting it.  It really couldn’t have been more perfect.

What made you choose Meegan as your photographer?  I had seen a lot of Meegan‘s work on her website and facebook and immediately loved her style.  We both wanted a photographer who would do more than just document our big day.  We wanted someone who would artistically tell our story through images.

Thank you so much, Meegan, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Jennifer, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We hope your wedding is everything that you have ever dreamed of and wish you and Shane a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

GSS Featured Engagement Session :: Samantha & Daniel’s Austin, Texas Engagement :: Kristi Wright Photography

Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Kristi Wright Photography, a Texas wedding photographer based in Austin, Texas.  Kristi has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Samantha and Daniel are to be married on May 11, 2011 in Hawaii!!!  Samantha was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Daniel meet?  We met during undergrad at The University of Texas. We played on the same intramural co-ed flag football team. I was a receiver and Daniel was our stud safety. He would always give me rides to our games, since I was a freshman and had no idea how to get to the IM football fields;)

How long have you been together and how long did you date before the proposal?  We had been dating four and a half years when he proposed in April. Come November, we will have been together for five years. We have really grown up together.

Have you set a date yet?  We decided to get married next May, 5/11/11. I am in Physical Therapy school and that is my only time off until I graduate in May of 2012. Neither of us were wanting to wait that long.

Have you picked your venue?  If so, what made you choose this location?  We decided to get married in Hawaii, on the island of Kauai. It is kind of a long and round-about story. I got the idea a few years ago when working with a patient who had broken her leg while at her daughter’s wedding in Hawaii. She brought in these beautiful pictures of her daughter’s wedding, mainly to show us how she was in a wheel chair on the beach during the ceremony. We all got a good laugh, but I couldn’t help but think how amazing it would be to get married there. Since Daniel and I both enjoy traveling, we figured why not and just went for it.

At what point did you know that Daniel was “the one”?  I don’t know if there is one single moment that made me think Daniel was “the one”. I really appreciated his drive and passion in life. We both are very goal driven. The more we were together, the more I saw the qualities I wanted in a partner for life. When you start dating at the ages of 18 and 19 and end up still together and engaged 5 years later, there are a lot of things you have worked through. Through the stresses of school, getting into grad school, and work, Daniel has always been my number one go-to person. He always will be. That is what makes him “the one”.

Besides getting engaged, what is your favorite memory as a couple?  Daniel and I consider ourselves “old souls”. So our favorite moments are when we are home together and just lounging on the couch watching a movie or Family Guy(Daniel’s show of choice). We did get to take a trip together in 2009 to San Francisco and the Red Wood Forest. Because of our personalities, we of course, had a strenuous itinerary. We over scheduled ourselves and were so tired, but we got to see it all!

How did Daniel propose?  Daniel took me back to a place on UT campus where we used to pass by each other when we first met. I always made sure I was dressed nicely on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays because I knew we would see each other. Daniel stuck to his gray sweat pants. It was great to go back to the place where we both would get butterflies at the possibility of seeing each other.

Were you surprised?  I knew it was coming! He tried to say he was taking me to a new restaurant. But I knew there were no restaurants on that side of campus. The good thing was that in all the places I had imagined and thought he might ask me, I never thought of that place. So, even though I had it figured out, it was still a great surprise, and I cried of course.

What made you choose Kristi Wright as your photographer?  We chose Kristi as our photographer because we love her work. Her photographs are modern, warm and artsy. The last thing I wanted was the same old, matching white shirts, posing in a garden engagement photos. I used to do photojournalism in high school, which I know means virtually nothing, but it allows me to really appreciate her creative eye. It is not always easy to get great shots in great locations, but she picks them out so easily. Plus, she is a blast to work with. We love her and her work so much, we asked her to shoot the wedding in Hawaii too! We are so excited.

Thank you so much, Kristi, for sharing this amazing wedding with us!  Please stop by her website and show her some love!  And thank you, Samantha, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We hope your wedding is everything that you have ever dreamed of and wish you and Daniel a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!
