GSS Featured Wedding Professional :: Sharon with Smitten Photography :: Lindsay & Tony, Simi Valley, California

We have something fantastic to share with you GSS readers today! Sharon from Smitten Photography shared this fabulous wedding with us. Lindsay and Tony got married at a gorgeous location in Southern California. We asked Lindsay some questions about her big day and she was so kind to let us know how the day unfolded.

How did you and Tony meet?
Well this is a little bit of a funny story :-) I moved to Oceanside, CA in January 2008 because I wanted a change. On February 15, 2008 I called my cousin and her husband to see if they wanted to go out to dinner. She and I chose to go to Hooters for some reason. When we walked in, there was this large table of Marines, probably about 10-12 guys. Being that I was single, I was pretty excited. The hostess sat the three of us nearby that table of guys. My cousin and her husband chose the seats that face that table, so that meant my back was to the guys. Her husband and I started drinking and we were all having a good time, then all of a sudden her husband said he was going to try to set me up with one of those guys. He walked over to the table and said, “Does any of you want to meet that blonde chic (at the time I was a blonde) over there? She is new to the area.” I was so embarrassed. He came back to the table and told me to turn around and wave. I was too embarrassed, my face was bright red from embarrassment and being a little tipsy :-) A few minutes later, this guy came over to the table. He says, “Hi, I’m Tony. Can I sit and hang out?” I was nervous but I said, “Yes!” He sat and chatted with us and had some drinks with us for a while. Before Tony left he asked for my phone number. At around midnight, I got a phone call from an unknown number. I answered and it was Tony; he was calling to make sure I gave him my real number and not some random persons number. From that point on, we hung out all the time.

How long have you been together?
We have been together for 2 1/2 years.

How did Tony propose?
Tony proposed on August 26, 2008 in a hot air balloon ride in San Diego. It was amazing!! We went above the clouds then watched the sunset over the ocean. It was gorgeous!! He always tells me he was kinda nervous doing the proposal up there because he had the ring in his pocket and was afraid it was going to fall out over the edge. He did an awesome job planning it, I loved it and will remember it forever.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”?
Something Old- Pink Sapphire Earrings and Heart Necklace
Something New- My Dress and Shoes
Something Borrowed- I didn’t have anything borrowed
Something Blue- My Underwear

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?
I just have to say that Maggie Sottero is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!! I bought my dress at Pebbles Bridal in Woodland Hills, CA. I always told myself to try on lots of styles because I might think I like something, but then it might not look great on my body type. I tried on 4 dresses. The last dress was “THE ONE.” I walked out of the dressing room and my sister (MOH) cried, my mom was in awe, and I just felt like the most beautiful girl ever. I fell in love with the dress instantly. I love the corset back. I love how the ruching bodice extended past my waist. I love the little bit of crystal detail on the side. I made one little change, instead of having a straight across strapless, I had them make it a sweetheart neck line. I wish I could wear my wedding dress everyday, although I never knew how heavy wedding dresses are.

What sold you on your wedding venue?
I was researching lots of wedding venues in Southern California, and all of them seemed to be extremely expensive because nothing was including in the cost like linens, food, etc. I was beginning to think I wasn’t going to be able to afford a wedding. Then out of no where I remembered a fairly new golf club back in the hills, no homes around in Simi Valley, CA. My mom and I checked into it and the cost included everything…linens, food, chairs, tables. It was such a relief, and not to mention the location is GORGEOUS!!!

What was your favorite part of your big day?
My favorite part of our wedding day was having my mom and dad walk me down the aisle to give me away to Tony. I remember that moment of walking out of the club house my parents on my sides seeing Tony at the alter. Once my parents gave my hands to Tony, I felt like nothing else in the world mattered except he and I.

How did you choose your wedding color palette?
Oh the color palette…I went back and forth and back and forth. I changed my colors quite a few times. I went from fall colors, to spring colors, to neutral colors. I looked online at tons of wedding blogs to see what caught my eye, and I have to say searching and searching didnt help much. It made me a little stressed. Tony and I were talking about the colors one day and he said what about red, black and white. I shot him down (nicely of course) and said no I feel like everyone does those colors. What if we did hot pink, black and white? He loved it. We decided since our wedding was in the evening black would work for summer, and just a touch of hot pink in the flowers and bits and pieces in the details would be perfect. We wanted to have a classy but fun wedding and I think these colors worked perfectly.

What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife?
Our first dance song was I Could Not Ask For More by Sara Evans

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?
My advice to brides is to not let the little things stress you out, stay calm. The planning process takes a while, then the Big Day comes and goes so quickly. Everything will work out in the end, trust me. I picked out black cocktail dresses for my bridesmaids, when they arrived I hated them, I thought they were hideous. So I had my bridesmaids get the long simple black one. I stressed over it, but all my girls were so understanding. Also, have fun planning and include your fiance. My mom and I had lots of ideas, but I always made sure my fiance (now hubby) was on board. He may not seem interested in flowers, but he is probably interested in other areas such as invites, songs, etc. I feel like I was a very mellow bride, I dont think I stressed out much at all. I wasn’t nit-picky about things, I just wanted to have our wedding be fun.
