GSS Featured Anniversary Session :: Travel Inspired Photo Session :: Heather Annette Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  Today’s fabulous feature comes from Heather Ferguson of Heather Annette Photography, a Utah based wedding photographer.   Heather has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Without further ado, here is Melinda and Steven’s chic travel inspired anniversary session.  Melinda was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Steven meet?  He was my brother’s best friend. He had no interest in me in high school (being 3 years older than me). I, of course, looked to him as the “cool” kid that everyone loved. He seemed to be admired by every click andor group you could think of. After high school, I was attending BYU and living in Provo. He returned from his mission and roomed with my brother. We hit it off there.

How long have you been married?  Two and a half years.

What has been your favorite part of being married?  My favorite part of being married has been being able to enjoy each other all the time. The different angles and situations that we can love each other in has been a fun aspect.

What advice do you offer to newlyweds?  Advice to newlyweds: The Golden Rule! If you don’t want someone treating you a certain way, or having unrealistic expectations, then don’t do that to your spouse. Especially the man you love. If something needs to be done, do it yourself or don’t say anything at all. No one likes to be told what they’re not doing, or could be doing “better.” We’re all human.

What one item off of your wedding registry have you used the most?  Vidalia Chop Wizard

What made you want to do an anniversary shoot?  We realized that after a few years of being married, we hardly took photos the way we did when we were dating. We thought it would be fun to be able to look back on. I remember my grandma saying that when you’re old, you look at photos of yourself when you were young and think, “Hey, I was better looking or thinner or whatever than I gave myself credit for.”

What made you choose Heather as your photographer?  Heather has a unique ability to capture emotions that we often perceive as sparks, or fleeting moments. I wanted to be able to have a tangible representation of what we (my husband and I) feel towards each other. Sometimes you get so caught up in the day to day things that you fail to recognize that the “spark” is still there. Seeing it in a photograph and having it forever extends those fleeting moments into lasting, concrete memories. Heather is excellent at capturing an emotion and expanding it into something lasting.

Thank you so much, Heather, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Melinda, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We wish you and Steven a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

GSS Featured Engagement :: Nicole & Ryan’s Snowy Utah Engagement Session :: Rebekah Westover Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  We have a special treat for you today.  Although most of the country is experiencing the beginning of Spring and the warmer weather it brings- The Rockies and our northern and eastern states are still getting some of that beautiful white powder.  With that said, we have an amazing snowy engagement session to feature today from Rebekah of Rebekah Westover PhotographyRebekah Westover Photography is a Utah based wedding photographer.

Nicole and Ryan are to be married on December 10, 2011 in San Diego.  Nicole was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Ryan meet?  Ryan and I met 8 years ago at my family beach house in Laguna Beach, CA. We had a little trailer there right on the beach in a little place that my great-grandmother had bought when my grandma was a girl. It was a magical quaint little part of Laguna that had been around for ages. Ryan was a lifeguard and conveniently enough, one of my cousin’s friends. I come from a family of all boys so it wasn’t until a year later that I was given the OK to date him… I guess being raised among the guys they feel like they have to check and double check credentials…especially if it’s one of their friends! We were 17 then and we really didn’t know what to expect…for all we knew, it was a summer romance.

How long did you date before the proposal OR How long have you been together?  We have been together for 8 years and have survived the distance, school and our jobs. Ryan graduated from the University of Irvine with an emphasis in Social Ecology and I graduated from the University of San Diego with a BA in English and a single subject Teaching Credential- A far cry from what we both do today! Ryan is a Marine Safety Officer for the City of Laguna Beach and I am a Drywall Subcontractor in San Diego.

Have you set a date yet?  We’re getting married 12-10-11.

Have you picked your venue?  If so, what made you choose this location?  We’ve decided to get married in San Diego at the Immaculata which is located on my old college campus-USD. We would frequent the church often when I went to school there and I am so excited that the priest who will be marrying us was my priest ever since I was a young girl. Nothing can be more special than having someone you know well marry you. Our families are extremely important in our lives and we want more than anything, to have a celebration of family and friends. We’ve been together for long enough to know our commitment and love for one another is so great and   we want the focus to be on what got us to this point and honor our families and friends. That being said, we’re going to have our reception at my families home in La Jolla. We’re getting married in December because we thought it seemed more cozy and would set the mood for our cabin-y family celebration…much like Christmas feels!

How did Ryan propose?  Ryan proposed while we were Heli-skiing at the Canyons with the Park City Powder Birds in Utah.   On Dec 24, 2010 we went up in the helicopter with my family and Ryan. It was an amazingly clear day and we had such great runs. On the third run my family skied down one by one leaving us to be the last two. (Each person goes separately just in case there’s avalanche danger). I was up next and just as I was asking the guide if I could go, I saw Ryan pull something from his jacket. Immediately he popped the question because I think he feared I might Ski away! It was amazing and our guide got our photos on camera! I was so surprised and it was the perfect engagement for us and most importantly, it was on Ryan’s terms. :)

Besides getting engaged, what is your favorite memory as a couple?  My Dad has always included me in all of the things that one might consider “guys trips” from hunting to fishing to heliskiing. I love to try new things and get out and explore. I think Ryan figured that my mind would be focused on the adrenaline of the situation that I’d never consider him proposing (you have to remember we’d been dating 8 years… I ALWAYS expected it). I had even planned a trip to climb Mt. Whitney, a 14,000 elevation climb just because I thought it might inspire him. It was only after 35 miles and 14,000 feet that he had to explain we were not getting engaged just yet. I think I cried all the way down because it was then that I realized I had climbed the highest peak in CA and had blisters on my feet and hadn’t gone to the bathroom in days for no apparent reason other than I was a big dreamer! But he knew what I was up to… This is hands down one of our favorite memories too as we both laugh about it to this day. Just the fact that he still wanted to marry me after this was amazing!

What made you choose to do a snowy engagement session vs. a San Diego beach session?  Since we were engaged in Utah, we debated for some time about getting married there. Everything is amazingly beautiful and each winter we love to go and ski as often as we can! Eventually, we decided it was best to stay close to home so that more of our family could come celebrate with us, BUT we weren’t willing to give up on Utah altogether…we wanted pictures to capture where our fond memories continue. The beaches of California are nice, but they don’t capture the fun that we have in the snow and it seemed all the more fitting since our engagement was there and our wedding in December. Again, we love the cabin atmosphere and the fun  of winter!

What made you choose Rebekah as your photographer?  After looking for a bit, we found Rebekah and feel in love with her style and the way she captures truly happy and fun moments. We aren’t too much of a serious couple and we wanted to feel as if we were enjoying each other’s company and she was capturing the moments for us- that’s what we got and we’re so happy that we have these to forever remember this part of our lives. All of these moments and feelings are something that we will reminisce about again and again and it’s so nice to have a photographer like Rebekah to make them timeless.

Nicole was sweet enough to send us a couple of shots from the actual proposal too!  So cool!!! LOVE it!

Thank you so much, Rebekah, for sharing this amazing engagement session with us!  Please stop by her website and her blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Nicole, for taking your time to answer our questions and sharing your proposal pictures with us!  We hope your wedding is everything that you have ever dreamed of and wish you and Ryan a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!

GSS Featured Anniversary Session :: Madelyn & Justin’s Romantic Vintage AND Sexy Modern Inspired Anniversary Photo Session :: Crave Photography

It’s FRIDAY!!! And boy, do we have a special treat in store for you today!  Remember a few weeks back when we featured the phenomenal pieces of Gracylu Originals by Tristian Skidmore (click here to see the post)???  Well, we fell head over heels in love with a particular image in that feature and just HAD to share with you the entire photoshoot.  This anniversary photo session comes from Andee Tate of Crave Photography and it just blows our minds!  Crave Photography is a Utah based wedding and lifestyle photographer.  Andee has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

So without further ado, we present to you the pure awesomeness of Madelyn & Justin’s Vintage AND Modern Anniversary Photo Session!  Madelyn was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and your husband meet?  My husband and I met in a student ward. We grew up 15 minutes apart from one another in very small towns. We missed each other by  1 year in high school. It was by chance that I happened to go to a ward that I wasn’t in boundaries for. I had a boyfriend for the first little while that we knew each other. My husband is a few inches shorter than me, I just couldn’t get over that fact! Haha so for a year or so he kept asking me out and kept trying to get me to go out with him…. After about a year of denying him I decided that I was madly in love with him. We had become best friends and had everything in the world going for us, but because of his height I just refused to accept it, until feelings were too strong for even me to fight. By the time I decided we could date, we were already in love and best friends. We’ve been absolutely inseparable since :)

How long have you been married?  We have been married for a blissful year and a few months.

What has been your favorite part of being married?  My favorite part of being married are the content feelings that follow. The pure happiness and utter bliss that you experience together. I love the journey, the trials and everything that comes along with taking on the world TOGETHER. Having your best friend by your side through everything is an unexplainable blessing.

What advice do you offer to newlyweds?  Honestly, the best advice I could offer is to learn to love the little things. A lot of people get so caught up in nit-picking at each others quirks, when you should just learn to love and laugh at them. NO ONE is perfect, but together I do think perfection to be a natural occurrence in a relationship. You learn to work together, work as one. ENJOY every minute and remember every memory!

What one item off of your wedding registry do you love the most?  My bedding!! I absolutely love taking naps, cuddling and being together. Starting and ending each day with my husband and talking about our day. It’s my retreat.

What made you want to do an anniversary shoot?  Besides wedding photos, there aren’t really a lot of pictures that you have taken. I thought it would be sweet and precious to do an anniversary shoot. Have it be the last thing we have done until we start our family :) and have it be a final reminder of the starting of our life together, and capture our hearts in the photos.

Your photo session has two very different themes:: a very vintage and romantic theme and a very modern and sexy theme.  Can you tell us what was your inspiration behind your photo shoot?  I am absolutely obsessed with 2 things, vintage and fashion, and my husband so I guess 3 things 😉 lol. I did a shoot with Crave in an orchard that was very 1920’s-ish and it was one of my favorite shoots. I wanted to incorporate that in our anniversary photos as well as some more modern photos that aren’t so ‘over the top’ if you will. I love finding the outfits and putting them together for the shoot. Andee with crave is amazing at setting up the props and finding perfect locations. I think the inspiration was wanting it to be really intimate and romantic.

What made you choose Andee as your photographer?  I was so drawn to Andee because of her sample bridals that were so vintage and everything I envisioned for my wedding. She was a dream come true, we had a very small budget and we were her first client :) we were both answers to prayers! I have kept in touch with her and done a few shoots with her since and I just absolutely adore her!!!!! She is the most down to earth, talented person I have ever known. She is just divine! Easy to work with, and INCREDIBLE at what she does.

Seriously, how GORGEOUS is the hat by Gracylu Originals in the above images?! SWOON!  Also, this amazing session was stylized by Carolee of Junque Design.  She is absolutely brilliant!

Thank you so much, Andee, for sharing this amazing anniversary session with us!  Please stop by her blog and show her some love!  And thank you, Madelyn, for taking your time to answer our questions!  We wish you and Justin a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!!  May every day be better than the last!
