Today’s featured engagement comes from Jodi Schlosser of Jodi Schlosser Photography. She is a St. Louis, Missouri based wedding photographer. She has been so accommodating to GSS on this feature. Thank you! Emily and Justin will be married on October 7 this year in St. Louis. Emily was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:
How did you and Justin meet?
Justin and I knew each other in high school: He was a senior and I was a freshman. I had a huge crush on him but we didn’t actually start dating until I was a freshman in college. We went out one night with mutual friends and ended up talking the whole night. We’ve been together ever since!
How long have you been together? We celebrated our 5-year anniversary in March!
Have you set a date yet? Yes. Our wedding date is Friday, October 7, 2011.
Have you picked your venue? If so, what made you choose this location? Our ceremony is at the Music Stand in Tower Grove Park, St. Louis, MO. We were really hoping for an outdoor wedding and the gazebo is so beautiful and represents our love of music! (Plus it is one of few outdoor venues that has a good Plan B for bad weather; the Piper Palm House)
Our Reception is at The Falls in Columbia, IL. We are both from Columbia and it was convenient for our family and friends. They are SO easy to work with and are happy to accommodate their clients in any way!
At what point did you know that Justin was “the one”? We started dating in the Spring of 2006 and he had planned to go away to school that fall. After a few months of dating, we were inseparable and I couldn’t imagine parting in the fall. We were determined to make it through the 2 years of long-distance! Even though it was very difficult to be apart, it definitely made our bond stronger!
Besides getting engaged, what is your favorite memory as a couple? That is a hard question – we have so many! We are big St. Louis Cardinals fans and were able to go to several games during the National League Division Series (NLDS), National League Championship Series (NLCS), and World Series in 2006! We were downtown and got to celebrate inside the stadium when the Cardinals won the World Series. It was so fun to experience together!
How did Justin propose? During Memorial Day weekend of 2010, Justin and I traveled to Ft. Myers Beach, Florida for a weekend getaway. Little did I know he was secretly carrying a sparkly ring in his pocket for the majority of the trip, waiting for the perfect moment! On the last night, Justin suggested we head to the beach to watch the sunset. He led me to a secluded cove surrounded by driftwood, which he had obviously scouted earlier that day. As we watched the sunset, he started talking about our relationship and how much I meant to him. He then pulled out a beautiful ring and asked me to marry him! I was so completely caught off guard that it took me a moment to reply, “YES!!”
Were you surprised? I was totally surprised. We had discussed it a lot but I wasn’t thinking it would happen for awhile!
What was your inspiration for your session? Are y’all big fans of Scrabble? (We love it by the way!) Justin and I are HUGE Scrabble nerds! We play constantly and are really competitive. I was looking at wedding blogs and found a wedding that I really loved. They had taken pictures with a Scrabble board and they turned out so great. There will be more Scrabble elements to come in the wedding
What made you choose Jodi as your photographer? I went to a Bridal show with my friend and was in search of a photographer. When we approached Jodi’s booth, I was immediately drawn to her style. She had a huge print on display of a bride and groom holding a pitchfork, posed like the famous American Gothic painting by Grant Wood. I thought to myself “this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen!” I love her style of photography – she’s just fantastic!
Thank you so much, Jodi, for sharing this amazing wedding with us! Please stop by her website and blog and show her some love! And thank you, Emily, for taking your time to answer our questions! We wish you and Justin a lifetime full of love, laughter, and happiness!!! May every day be better than the last!
