GSS Featured Wedding :: Emily & Landry’s Ranch Wedding :: Kate Takes Photos

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  You’re all in for a treat today!!!  Man, our submissions just keep getting better and better!!!  Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Kate Miller of Kate Takes Photos, a Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas based wedding photographer.  Kate has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Emily and Landry were married on May 29, 2010 at The Inn at Wind Hill Ranch and their wedding was FILLED to the brim with amazing details!  Emily was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Landry meet?  We met at Central Market one night after a church gathering.  A group had gotten together for dinner and we had someone sitting in between us.  When he got up, conversation began!

How long have you been together?  We just celebrated the anniversary of our first date!!  My how quickly things change!  Our first date was September 24th, 2009.  It’s been an amazing year together!!

How did Landry propose?  Landry and I were sold on each other after just 2 and 1/2 weeks.  I had waited and waited for Mr. Right and when he came along, we just knew it was right.  3 months and a day after our first date Landry proposed.  It was Christmas Day.  Landry had gone to Odessa 2 days prior to celebrate the holiday with his family  I was anxiously anticipating his return Christmas evening.  He was going to come back so we could have a few hours of Christmas together.  My family was all in town and staying at my home for the holidays.  Around 1 o’clock there was a knock at the front door, and my brother called up to me to let me know that something was dropped off at the door.  Mind you, it was a WHITE Christmas in 2009-so beautiful!  At the front door was a box filled with candy canes and note to ‘follow the candy cane trail.’  I quickly pulled on the boots and ran through the snow following the candy canes and sweet notes.  At the end of the trail was my sweet Landry, down on one knee with a ring.  Best Christmas I ever had!  Complete surprise!

What sold you on your wedding venue?  I always wanted to do something unique and was inspired by the blank canvas and beautiful outdoor scenery.  Plus, I loved that we were married in a town named ‘Godley.’  It felt appropriate.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I didn’t want the standard strapless dress.  I liked that it had the sleeves and the sweetheart neck.  The little bit of lace gave it a Southern feel, and the back was so unique.  I picked it out on a leap of faith though.  It is so difficult to determine what a dress is going to look like when the sample size isn’t the right size.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?  I didn’t do this tradition.

How did you choose your wedding color palette?  I wanted something very fresh and fun.  Lime and Orange seemed like the natural choice.  After landing on the color scheme I then realized later that it is the exact same scheme as my house design!  No wonder I was so drawn to it!  Now the wedding photos look so great in the house since everything coordinates!!  :)

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?  Remember that the wedding is a day, a very special day, but the marriage is what’s the important part.  My husband and I invested time to be mentored and counseled before hand and I’m so glad we did.  Also, any stress I experienced along the way was all worth it!  The wedding was hands-down the best day of my life.  It was such a blessing to marry my husband and be surrounded by so many that we loved.  It was a very special day, and looking back at pictures and reflecting is my ‘happy-place.’

What song did you dance to for your first dance? ’For once in my Life’ by Stevie Wonder

What was your favorite part of your big day?  Standing at the altar and saying my vows to my husband.  We hadn’t talked or seen each other all day (which was a big deal to us), and being hand in hand promising forever a was special moment we had dreamed about for a long time.  We were just beaming up there.
