GSS Featured Wedding Professional :: Emily Hudspeth

March 5, 2010 |  by amykarp  |  WEDDINGS, vendor spotlight

Today’s Feature Friday is Emily Hudspeth. We have had the opportunity to work with her recently and getting to know her has been a blast! Saying she is a firecracker would be an understatement! HA! We caught up with each over a pedicure and some wine and it was an instant connection. That’s the way we do our feature vendors…pedicures and wine. Is there any other way to go? We asked Emily some questions and she sent us some images of her handy work. She is a very talented gal and will be one of the artists for our Alice in Weddingland event. We are thrilled to have this fabulous wedding pro on board with us!

Be sure to read all the way to the end….EMILY IS HAVING A GIVEAWAY on Feature Friday today!!

How long have you been a stylist and makeup artist?

I have been a licensed professional for 10 years but I have been practicing my craft for about 20+. With two aunts who were hairdressers, I was practically raised in a beauty shop. You cant keep me away from beauty products.

What are you favorite hair and makeup products?

For styling hair, I love ‘Elevate Hairspray. It has a buildable hold so I can use it as both a working and finishing spray. Clients love it for their at-home use because of the flexibility of the product. In fact, I love the entire Eufora line for both cleansing, treatment, styling and finishing.

The makeup department has a few favorites. I love the new Dior foundation I’m using, Hourglass Cosmetics has the greatest waterproof liners, Makeup Forever’s Finishing Veil. Ahhhh, the list could go on for days!

What is your priority as a Bridal Beauty Consultant?

It is important to me that the bride and her party enjoy having their hair and makeup done. I want them to be relaxed and having fun. That is why I love going to them, it reduces the stress of having to organize appointments. Also, I want the bride to feel like her most beautiful self. The goal is to enhance her beauty so that she feels glamorous throughout the entire event.

Emily also offers some tips on her blog. Be sure to go check those out!

What would you advise a bride to consider when choosing a stylist?

Find someone who you feel comfortable with, you will be spending a great deal of time with them. Do your research. Ask a lot of questions about policy and how scheduling works.

What other services do you provide outside the wedding industry?

In addition to bridal makeup and styling, I find myself doing all sorts of fun stuff. I keep busy with photoshoots, commercials and film projects. I especially enjoy the ongoing relationship that I have with my regular cut, color and waxing clients.

Probably the most fun thing that I do is makeup lessons. I offer a group class where you get your friends together and have “Makeup 101″,  we discuss general information that everyone needs to know. For example, how to shop for and maintain makeup brushes/tools and understanding when cosmetics have expired. From there you can take a step further and get individual attention by booking your “Makeover your Makeup Bag” session. Its a great way to spend girl time and pick up some new tricks too!

From your website you work in  multiple locations, How does that work?

Basically, “have hair and makeup skills- will travel!” has been my calling card. So far, I have styled weddings in US, Mexico and Ireland! I am based in Dallas now but have worked in both Los Angeles and South Louisiana over the years. I travel there to maintain clients in those markets while making new clients and friends in DFW.

Emily, we recently heard the news you are now ENGAGED! That is so exciting!! Now that you are engaged, what is it like being on the other side of the wedding industry?

Well, I have always felt it was important to work with brides and be flexible. I’ve always felt that each individual bride comes with her own situations and priorities to take into consideration so I have avoided ”packages” and focused on customized service. Now that I am planning a New Orleans wedding from Dallas (yikes!), I am finding so much value in the flexibilty that the vendors we have chosen have entended to us.
