GSS Inspiration Board :: Cornflower Blue & Silver

Hello, Lovelies! We decided that since we put together so many wedding inspiration boards, that we would show you exactly how one can be used… How to take an inspiration image and make it your own. With that said, this week we will have a three part post. Today is the first, showing you the inspiration board, itself. Tomorrow we will reveal how the inspiration images were interpreted. And Friday we will show you how the entire wedding came together!

This inspiration board is actually the inspiration board that I created for my own wedding in May 2009. This is a very personal post for me. I’m not doing this to showcase my wedding, our wedding was nothing spectacular. But it suited us perfectly and was within our budget. I’m doing this because I want to share with everyone what I’ve learned. I want brides to see the process and how easily inspiration can be made into something real, something tangible.

Here’s what inspired me: I’m a very old fashioned gal and I really loved the idea of wearing my mother’s wedding dress especially since I am the exact size she was when she married my father… Except for the fact that she got married January 1973… Which means that the dress is empire waisted, long poofy lace sleeves, with a turtle-neck. (See picture below) No, no, no, not happening. Sorry, Mom! However, my mother had this gorgeous, chapel length lace veil and I knew I had wear it. My parents have been happily married for 37 years now. HAPPILY. Like high school kids in love still. It’s truly amazing. I thought maybe the veil would bring us just as much love and happiness… Thus the veil became my complete inspiration for our wedding. It was truly a vintage piece and I knew I wanted a vintage feel to our wedding.

Side Note: I love this picture. My mom was 20 and my dad was 19… AND it was the 1970′s… Seriously, how about that HUGE bow on my mom’s head and that rockin’ lace printed tux with a pink shirt!!! Hahaha! I get a ridiculously large grin on my face everytime I look at it. Random fact about my parents wedding day: They BOTH had the Swine Flu that day. They’re such troopers!

Getting back on subject… So I started pulling images off of the internet immediately. As I begun pulling images, I realized that my wedding colors were just falling into place on their own…. Here’s what I came up with:
