Today’s fabulous featured wedding was submitted to us by Janiece McClendonof ChiK Photography, a Texas based wedding photography team comprised of Janiece and Carol Riell. Janiece has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.
Collyn and Brannon were married on February 26, 2011 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Collyn was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:
How did you and Brannon meet? A mutual friend introduced us while we were out one Saturday night. Neither one were looking to meet anyone. I was out for girls night!
How long have you been together? At the time of the wedding we had just reached our 1 year anniversary.
How did Brannon propose? He took me on a trip to Las Vegas for my birthday, or so I thought. He had it all planned out, had the ring and my father’s permission. However, there was a little mishap. The lady scanning our baggage completely blew his cover when she saw a ring inside his carry-on. She kept asking, “Are you going to Las Vegas to get married?” Brannon quickly snapped back, “No, of course not!!” hinting for her to be quiet, but she didn’t get it and kept on and on until I became suspicious. He waited until we were in our gorgeous suite at the Bellagio watching the fountains dance along to the music. The clock had just struck midnight, Texas time, which meant it was my birthday when he officially popped the question.
What sold you on your wedding venue? We were married in the church I grew up in, so there was lots of sentimental reasoning behind that. Then, there were several reasons Hidden Lakes was the perfect choice for our reception. I absolutely fell in love with it when I first saw it! The natural setting of the lodge and the woods was exactly what I wanted. Then upon talking with Kathryn and her staff, I knew they would take great care of us for our special day!
Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? I bought my dress from Priscilla of Boston in Dallas. It was the first time I had gone dress shopping, and wasn’t planning on buying that day. However, the lady helping me try on suggested a new style that she thought would be perfect on me. It was the 3rd dress I tried, and it certainly was a charm! There really is something about when you try on THE dress, it just feels right. I felt so beautiful in it and did not want to take it off.
What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”? The something old, of all things, were my shoes. I had the cutest pair of Kate Spades that I just loved and went great with my dress. My dress was new, my earrings were borrowed and gorgeous, and my cousin made my garter which had blue satin roses.
Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process? Don’t sweat the small stuff, and sometimes even the big stuff is really just small stuff too. Remember what you are planning for. The love between to people is a beautiful thing, and should not be overshadowed by a table linen!!
What song did you dance to for your first dance? We chose “That’s the Way Love Goes” By Merle Haggard. I introduced it to Brannon when we were first dating, and it quickly became one of his all time favorites. I guess that’s “our song”!
How did you choose your wedding color palette? I was inspired by my favorite flower: a classic white hydrangea. A little brown in the stem, the green of the leaves and the white from the petals. I wanted it to be very natural.
What was your favorite part of your big day? That’s a hard one!! But I would have to say making it to the reception and seeing all the people we love having a great time was definitely the best part. All along we wanted it to be a big celebration and lots of fun and it really was!!
