GSS Featured Wedding :: Pamela & Steve’s Old Hollywood Houston Wedding at the Heights Theater :: Zasey Photography

Happy Hump Day, Lovelies!!!  You’re all in for a treat today!!!  Man, our submissions just keep getting better and better!!!  Today’s fabulous featured wedding comes from Amber Strickler of Zasey Photography, a Houston, Texas based wedding photographer.  Amber has been so sweet and accommodating to GSS and we have truly enjoyed working with her on this feature.

Pamela and Steve were married on December 4, 2010 at Gallery M2 at the Heights Theater in Houston.  What an amazing venue!  Pamela was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How did you and Steve meet?   We went to the same college but at different times.  Steve and my brother were fraternity brothers and we knew of each other but never had met. We finally met out one night and hit it off.  The next week I had knee surgery and Steve showed up  that night with a two different types of ice cream, toppings and two movies, since he wasn’t sure which type I liked so he brought a little bit of everything.  I was sold.

How long have you been together?  4 1/2 wonderful years

How did Steve propose?   The week of his 33rd birthday he said his uncle wanted to throw him a small birthday party that weekend.  I ended up having to travel that week for work and was pretty wrapped up with work that week.  Steve was unusually high strung that week and I just wrote it off to stress..little did I know what was in the works.  That Saturday my friend and I went to the gym and lunch, I kept trying to go home but she kept stalling.  Steve told me after we arrived that our parents and his grandparents would be there along with ~20 of our friends… I was clueless and just thought this was going to be a fun night.  I finally had an opportunity to eat when Steve’s best friend started to make a bday toast, this was Steve’s moment so I took my plate and took a step back.  Just as someone stole my plate Steve took over the toast turned to me and proposed.  He even used the same ring that his Grandfather gave his Grandmother when they married 60 years ago! My brother thankfully caught it all on video!

What sold you on your wedding venue?   His Aunt suggested the Heights Theater.  Her very good friends had purchased this 1928 movie theater and is now an art gallery.  It was so unique and beautiful and embodied the vintage look we wanted.

Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?   My dress is from Ventura’s Bridal (Houston).  It was the first shopping trip and first dress I tried on.  I wanted a dress that was feminine, sexy and that I didn’t want to take off…. I just knew that was my dress and couldn’t wait for Steve to see me in it!

What song did you dance to for your first dance?   Steve’s very good friend, Shawn Pander is an incredible singer/songwriter.  He dedicated a song to us at his show the night of our engagement party and we knew we were going to have him sing at the wedding.  Steve and I kept going back and forth between songs and nothing felt right.  Steve said “Don’t worry I’m going to take care of this part.  You worry about the rest.”  So he did and I did… When we started our first dance Steve leaned in and told me to listen closely to the words…he had Shawn write a song for me for our first dance.

What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?  A very dear friend of my mom who has become one of our own had surprised  me with her beautiful antique sapphire and diamond ring..borrowed of course.

How did you choose your wedding color palette? I’ve always loved the navy and white.  It is clean, timeless, and a staple.

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?  Be calm, be nice and breath.   Remember that everyone there is pulling this together for you and because they love you.  Little things will happen and no one will ever know.

What was your favorite part of your big day? Two things; getting to the venue and seeing how hard our families were working (especially my mom…she deserves a cape).  It was so touching to see and knowing they were doing this all out of love.  The second thing was the anxiety knowing Steve was just outside of the room where I got ready.  When I heard his voice I was so giddy and couldn’t wait to see him.
