GSS Featured Wedding Pro :: Brooke Trexler Photography :: Alice & Quinn’s Colorado Wedding

We are excited to bring you an Asian infused Colorado wedding today from our friend, Brooke at Brooke Trexler Photography. She sent us Alice and Quinn’s beautiful Colorado wedding and we just HAD to share it with you!

We were able to ask Alice some questions and she was such a pleasure to work with – thank you for your speedy responses.

Without further delay, take it away Alice…

How did you and your husband meet?

We were introduced by a mutual friend in Beijing, where we were living. My friend told him, “The two of you are really similar so you’re either going to hate each other or completely fall in love”. We’re lucky it was the latter!

How long have you been together?

We’ve been together for 5 years.

How did he propose?

He asked me when we were taking a break next to a waterfall during a hike in Taos.

What sold you on your wedding venue?

Boettcher Mansion is in such a beautiful location and the building has so much character. We also loved the fact that our guests, who were mostly from out of state and overseas and had already traveled all the way here, could get a feel of the mountains without having to travel that far from Denver. The venue looked so great on its own, we didn’t have to invest a lot in wedding decor.

Your dress is gorgeous and we love the color, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?

I’m not really a girly girl and I didn’t want to go to a bridal salon to buy a white meringue dress. I knew I wanted something simple and that I wanted a colored dress. I looked online for inspiration and came across AriaDress (http://www.ariadress.com/). The dress I chose just “spoke” to me and I ordered it. About 9 weeks later, I had the dress I had always dreamed of.

What was the groom’s boutonniere made of?

I used a peacock feather and a pine cone against dark brown feathers bound together with purple ribbon. It sounds strange, but I swear, it turned out nicely!

How did you choose your wedding color palette?

I’ve always loved purple and my husband is an LSU fan (their colors are purple and gold), so it was pretty easy to get him to go along with my choice!

Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?

If you can afford a DOC, it is absolutely worth the investment. We wouldn’t have been able to enjoy our big day if it hadn’t been for our DOC, Dana Dunphy!

Please tell us about some of the cultural traditions you observed at your wedding…

My family is Chinese, so we decided to have a lion dance troupe perform during the cocktail hour and we had a tea ceremony before dinner. I changed into a lilac cheong sam (a Chinese-style dress) towards the end of the reception. My husband is from Louisiana, so we had to have lots of good food and drink. We had a momentary crisis during the wedding when we thought we had run out of Crown Royal, but luckily the bar staff managed to find another bottle! We played “The Second Line”, a Mardi Gras song, and led our guests in a march around the dining room, waving white napkins as we went.

What was your favorite part of your big day?

All of it, but especially our first dance and the parent/child dance. We loved that every aspect of our wedding was unique and reflected our personalities and backgrounds.

What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife?

Carla Bruni’s version of “You Belong to Me”
