GSS Featured Wedding Pro :: Heather Mount :: Mandy & John’s Schoolhouse Reception

Who says you have to have a wedding reception seconds, minutes, or hours after the ceremony? These two lovebirds decided to have one almost one year after their nuptials. Mandy and John were married at the courthouse and opted for a very fun and unique reception a year after they said “I do.” Heather Mount Photography sent us this wedding via Two Bright Lights….LOVE! The reception took place at Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas, the school where Mandy teaches art, and featured a lot of DIY touches and a TON of color.

Mandy and Heather shared a few details with us about the wedding…

Original wedding date was April 23, 2009 – Reception was on April 24, 2010.  When we went to the courthouse we got married with John wearing one of his many Star Wars shirts and I was wearing my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt.  A couple weeks later some of the teachers at my school threw us a Star Wars and Ninja Turtles themed post-wedding shower complete with decorations that were perfect for a little kid’s birthday party and purple and green juice boxes!  Since we started dating we sort of themed our relationship with the colors of green and purple.  Green is my favorite color and purple is John’s favorite color and it carried over to our reception celebration.

The butterflies that went on the cake were bought from another etsy seller named “clearcutcrafts2007“.

Cakes/cupcake makers…

The cakes and cupcakes were made by a friend of mine who is one of the Kindergarten teachers at Liberty.

Tell us more about this great bouquet made from buttons!

The bouquet is from Etsy.com  and the seller’s name on Etsy is “reallybadkitty“.

They and their guests all wore shades of purple and green to honor the couple’s favorite colors. Mandy carried a bouquet of buttons from Etsy. Guests were asked to pose in the DIY photobooth for a polaroid, then stick polaroids to construction paper so that they could then write notes for the guest book. They also had family members sign a slice of a tree! Mandy made all of the flower arrangements and decor – including the photobooth backdrop, the cd mix favors and the green and purple paper stars.

As an added treat – Mandy’s school kids had an art exhibition in the halls surrounding the school’s atrium, and we were able to get shots of her guests checking out her handiwork!

Thank you so much Heather for sending us this fun-filled wedding full of color! And Mandy and John, we wish you a lifetime full of love and laughter and may each day be better than the last.
