Derek Olson and Galen McGee of Two Ring Studios sent us this gorgeous wedding via Two Bright Lights (LOVE). This wedding is so beautiful and the photography is stunning. Enjoy as we catch up with the bride and groom about their wedding day….Falon and Clay are from Charlotte, NC and got married at Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Clay is a Sales Representative and Falon is pursuing her Master of Arts degree in Teaching. They chose the Biltmore Estate because they both agreed they wanted to get married somewhere classically vintage and romantically simplistic.
How did you and Clay meet?
Clay and Falon met while in high school. After being friends for four years, they both went their separate ways. Several years later Clay contacted Falon again, and they decided to meet. After a few short summer months of baseball games, dinners, and getting to know one another again, they were officially dating. The rest is history…
How long have you been together?
Officially…the second time around (because we dated some in high school) 5 ½ years
Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”?
Oh, dress! My dress was the exact reality of a dream and vision that I have always had of what I would wear on my wedding day. After a long, long search I finally found my perfect gown at Traditions by Anna in Raleigh, North Carolina. My dress is designed by Birnbaum & Bullock out of New York. The boutique and designers were so wonderful to work with and they helped me to create the absolute dress of my dreams. It was perfect and I am still very in love with it!
How did Clay propose?
The proposal… Well, it started out as a regular Friday evening for the couple. They were attending a holiday function with family and friends. They danced the night away to the band and then stayed after wards to help clean up. After wards, they jumped in Clay’s car to leave and Falon saw a small white box in the seat. “What is this?” she asked. “Oh, nothing,” he replied. By the look on his face, she knew it wasn’t “nothing.” Once it hit her that he may be proposing and that box was a ring box, she hopped out of the car. Once she turned around, Clay was down on one knee, in the parking lot, and asked her to marry him. She cried…and cried…and cried some more. After several minutes of trying to realize if this was really happening, she said, “Of course I will.” They spent the rest of the night celebrating with friends and family. It was perfect!
How did you choose your wedding color palette?
I knew that I wanted to have a fall color wedding palette so that our wedding colors would be enhanced by the beautiful fall colors of Asheville, North Carolina. Aubergine has always been a favorite color of mine, and deep golds, reds and oranges were beautiful fall colors that we thought would really complete our wedding color palette while also blending in with the already so beautiful colors of the fall season in the North Carolina mountains.
What sold you on having your wedding venue be Biltmore Estate?
When we first got engaged, we were not sure where our wedding would take place. We both agreed that it should be somewhere classically vintage and romantically simplistic. The Biltmore Estate was one of the first places that “caught our eye.” Once we visited the estate, and saw the beautiful old carriage house, The Deerpark, we knew our decision was going to be easy! We jumped in the car after our visit, and said simultaneously, “this is it!” After that, the planning has been easy. We want our family and friends to be able to join us in a place that is comfortable and classic when we make our vows to one another to be together forever. This place was perfect for us, and we hope they enjoy it as well!
What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”?
My something blue was a beautiful bridal handkerchief with our wedding date and my new last name “S” for Speaks embroidered on it. I carried this around my beautiful bridal bouquet. My something old was jewelry that I wore on our wedding day and my something new was a beautiful new broach that I wore on my sash. My something borrowed was also a beautiful piece of jewelry that I wore.
What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife?
‘More than Love’ by the Los Lonely Boys
What was your favorite part of your big day?
Every. Single. Moment. We can honestly say that it was truly perfect! There is not a single thing that we would change and we wish that we could do it the exact same way all over again because it was so wonderful and special! If I (Falon) think back on everything that happened that day, my favorite parts could be narrowed down to the following:
1. Waking up the morning of our wedding day and knowing that I was going to marry my best friend that day.
2. Getting ready with all of my family and bridal party. Having this time with them made our wedding day that much more special for me. They are the most important people in our lives and having them there with us…was definitely the most special part!
3. Seeing Clay for the first time. There are not words to express that feeling and experience of seeing him and knowing that I would be married to him for the rest of my life. It is truly amazing!
Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process?
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Planning our wedding was such an enjoyable experience for both my husband and I and also our family and close friends. We really started this process with a detailed vision of what we wanted and we stayed very true to our vision. We never let the stress or intensity of this experience overwhelm us and we enjoyed every single moment. So take your time and really make your wedding day everything that you both want it to be. In our opinion, it is the little details that make your wedding special and memorable to both you and your guests. Take the extra time and effort to make your wedding day YOURS with details of you and your fiance everywhere that you look! It is such a wonderful experience, so enjoy it!
