Matt from Matt Shumate Photography sent us Matt and Tiana’s backyard wedding. We instantly snatched it up and fell head over RED heels for it. If you want more eye candy (its fantastic!), jump over to his blog and see more wedding goodness!
How did you and Matt meet? Matt and I have known each other for about fifteen years. He was, and is a member at my family owned gym, Giorgio’s. He was good friends with my older brother and we just started talking more at the gym. He eventually asked my brother if he could ask me out! ha!
How long have you been together? We have been together just over three years now.
How did Matt propose? Matt proposed on my birthday, Sep 7th, two years ago! He took me up to a local winery, Arbor Crest…..my Italian family was in town at the time. All our family came up to the winery after the proposal to celebrate with us! He also asked my dad to marry me beforehand, so cute!
What sold you on your wedding venue? My wedding venue was my home growing up. We moved in the day I turned four, I am twenty-nine now. My parents are divorced, but my mom kept the home. I wanted to be married there since I can remember. So many wonderful childhood memories. I just always pictured my wedding there. My parents still get along so there wasn’t any awkwardness.
Your dress is gorgeous, where did you get it and how did you know it was “the one”? My dress!!! I love my dress!! If only it was acceptable to wear to work. I found it at Marcellas Bridal. It was just unique….my mom pulled it out to try and it just had that something special. I knew I wanted fitted, mermaid style. This dress just felt so sophisticated. Marcella herself is amazing and made some alterations, there was a big bow that we had cut off, and she nipped and tucked in all the right places! I felt like a “bride” when I put the dress on. Oh and my veil was handmade by my mother in law!
We love the shoes….tell us more about those! My shoes are probably one of my favorite things! I love, love, love, shoes in my everyday life and knew I wanted red shoes for my wedding! I searched and searched and finally ordered these off Endless.com. I was nervous ordering online, but when I saw them I knew they were exactly what I wanted. Perfect material, perfect height, perfect color!
How did you choose your wedding color palette? For my wedding colors I wanted something timeless and sophisticated…..white and black with pops of red. I just wanted to be able to look back years from now and not think “what was I thinking”. We were going for classic yet sexy and fun??? So hard to describe… my shoes and even Matt’s shoes felt very “us”…that something unexpected that makes it unique. I love that Matt wore all black with the white tie! So HOT!
What song did you dance to for your first dance as husband and wife? Our first dance as husband and wife was to “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison. I love that song! It was a toss up between that and REO Speedwagon “Keep on Lovin You”, which we played at the reception!
What was your “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”? My something old was a handkerchief from my great aunt Virginia, something new my dress. Something borrowed was my dad’s old wedding ring that I wore (from when he was married to my mom). My something blue was my garter.
Do you have any advice for brides that are in the planning process? My advice for brides in the planning process is to enjoy it! Certain days will be more stressful than others, but have fun with the process! And yes, it is your day and you should ultimately have what YOU want, but include family, it is special for them too. My family and Matt’s family were so helpful. We couldn’t have done it without them. The day goes by so fast just like everyone says…..enjoy the process of getting to that day!
What was your favorite part of your big day? I don’t know that I have a specific favorite part of the day. I loved getting ready with my sister, seeing Matt for the first time in my dress, taking pictures, feeling like a princess for the day. It was just a really wonderful day altogether! And of course we owe a lot to Matt Shumate for making us look good!
